I am going to New York City with my 4 1/2 year old son next week for a few days and was wondering what suggestions anyone has for activities. We'll be staying with my grandmother who lives on the Upper East Side.

Thank you!

What can I do next?

Hi L.,
I am originally from NY and just recently took my one year old. In NYC, there is a small but awesome children's museum called the children's museum of manhattan. They had many activities there including art, music, and play areas. I also love the Bronx zoo and the central park zoo which is even closer (Bronx zoo is bigger). If you plan on doing a lot of tourist places and museums like the empire state building and statue of liberty go early and check out citypass.com for a pass that you pay for a certain number of days and gets you into just about everything. I think it is better than another pass called the new york pass but you can check that out too. It saved our family a ton of money and we got to go to a lot of extra places that we wouldn't have normally gone to but we went since they were included on the pass.
Hope this helps!
Let me know if you need anymore info!

There are so many things to do. I like the suggestion of looking at the book store. They are usually packed with information, also look on line. I would take him to TOYS R US in Time Square. They have a carsouel in thier store. I would look up a Children's Museum those are always awesome in big cities. Time Square at night is an incredible sight for adults, so I can't imagine what it would be like through a child's eyes. Dylan's Candy....ooooh, three story candy store. you can get ice cream sundaes there too. Here is a link I found on information for Dylan's maybe you can find thier website from there. http://www.gocitykids.com/browse/attraction.jsp?id=18246 GoCityKids is a great sit to find travel info. Serendipty ice cream parlor is cool too. Usually a line to get in though.

Hi! What does your son like? NYC is FULL of opportunities. The museum of natural history might be fun if he is into animals. Central park has a carousel (or used to - I don't know if its still there). It also has statues of characters from Alice in Wonderland. Does he like Lion King? You could see if that is still playing on broadway. There is a discount ticket booth where you can buy day-of-show tickets; I think it is called tkts or something - just ask a native and I'm sure they can tell you where it is. I know i have seen in barnes and nobles books on traveling to various places with kids and I am sure they would have a guide about NYC. Be careful, though. The subways, for instance, can be frightening at rush hour. I hope you have a great time - take lots of pictures! My son loves to look at pictures of places we've been, especially if he's in the picture. Don't forget gum for the plane ride!
