I was talking to my husband about asparagus. He LOVES it...I DO NOT!!! I have tried and tried to like it. He finally asked me, "why do you keep trying?" I dont know...I think if I keep trying, I might just aquire a taste. Same goes for apples, pineapple, coconut and brussel sprouts...bleck!!!! I have tried all if these 12 ways to Sunday..to no avail

What foods have YOU tried to have a relationship with and failed!?! :)

P.S. Also, with me, same goes for wine....there isnt a wine in the country that I will drink....

What can I do next?

Oh my!!! This was such an interesting read!!! I find it absolutely facinating that a lot of you don't like seafood!!! OMG!!! I was a General Manager for a seafood restaurant in Kemah for 18 years. Other than scallops (they smell like feet) I will eat ANY seafood...including raw oysters, catfish, mussels, clams, shrimp, sushi....

Thanks for all the VERY interesting look into your lives...I guess it just go to show...we all, as Momma's, try and get our little ones to eat what WE think they should eat...I guess they have their own lists too!!!!!
God Bless everyone and thanks for keepin' it fun!!!!

I HATE Brussel's sprouts and broccoli! I also hate any type of cooked fruit. I do like broccoli sprouts, but try as I might, I hate the real deal. I've heard there's a study showing that some folk's taste buds are "different" and people with this issue hate both BS's & broccoli, so I guess that's me! I also despise rutabegas.

Must add though-I'm a total wino, and asparagus is my favorite veggie ;-)

I know this will probably shock the populis, but I can not stomach peanut better. I have tried especially when there was a peanut butter diet rage a few years back. I literally have a gag reflex. Liver, have also tried different ways, can't do it. Beer, any kind of powdered energy drink, cranberry sauce and oysters. Just reading this back and I'm getting queasy :)

I never used to like tomatoes, and one day decided I wanted to like them. I eat ketchup and tomato sauce, just not tomatoes. I can finally eat them in a sandwich, but not in a salad. I don't like its texture.

I do love jalepenos and use to put them on everything from salads to french fries, but my hubby can't take the heat so i dont really use them anymore

asparagus is just slimy! All three of the men in my family just love it, tho'! They especially love it grilled, either wrapped with bacon or not.

I also have trouble with any seafood....I'm allergic. I also tend to have a sore throat when I eat freshwater fish....which just doesn't go along with the fishermen in my family. & as of this winter, my younger son throws up everytime he has fish or seafood......looks like he's developing my allergy!

I don't do pickled herring or blackeyed peas for New Years. Yuck. The guys do.

I don't do most squash, but LOVE pumpkin & persimmon. Go figure! My sons love them, too.

My husband, on the other hand, hates pumpkin & persimmon.....& apricots, but will eat peaches/nectarines, & fried pumpkin/squash blossoms. Well, actually, he'll eat anything fried...including dill pickles....which are quite yummy.

I have trouble eating Bambi, but usually can eat squirrel/rabbit/game birds. The men love it all.

I hate processed cheeses....they're way too salty & the texture is weird. BUT, I love real cheeses....well, except for Limburger!

Fun ?.....thanks!

I gave Okra a fighting chance. I still despise the stuff.

One last food. Geoduck. Unfortunately/fortunately, it's also the creature that pays our bills (my husband dives for them). I can handle geoduck when it's first put through a meat grinder and used in chowder. Even then, it's dicey. Preparing them is...an experience. If you've never seen one, it's worth a peep:

Zucchini (sp?) I CAN'T STAND IT! Or squash! Pumpkin I can do fine with, but I have the worst gag reflux and if I even see or smell it I will start to heave. I HATE cheese. Yes I know it is unamerican but I don't care! The smell, the texture and the taste. Yuck! I can choke a piece of pizza down every once and awhile but that is about it. My dad does like it either but he does like cheese burgers. I look at cheese as a waste of milk! I do give it in my house. My kids love it especially my son. He is a mouse. I fix grilled cheese for them but I hate to touch it. I feel like my hands smell like cheese for a week. My husband loves ANY cheese. When I entertain I will always get a cheese ball. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean I want others to not have it. So there ya go. I'm a freak! :)

Beer and Scotch. Just thinking about it makes my stomach turn over. Its not a bast past experience kinda thing, they just gross me out. Fact usually I can't handle the taste of alcohol, which means all my "Mommy" drink have to be sugary and fruity. I have been able to acquire a taste for wine, though it has to be specific grapes.

Sushi grosses me out because of the raw fish thing, plus I can't stand seafood at all. Luckily no one in our house likes it so I don't have to cook it.

No game-- no venison, buffalo, quail, rabbit, etc.

Mint. I can handle mint in a mojito, but not ice cream or candies.

Um no, I would not eat any little animal, I have trouble enough eating meat (pork & chicken, didnt until a couple years ago) and while Ive seen recipes and even directions in a cookbook how to skin and prepare squirrels, possums & raccoons, uh no, their like pets to me, not meant for consumption.

I hear you on the wine thing. I can handle a glass of really really cold white wine but honestly I dont know why I ever drink it because I really dont enjoy the stuff. Red wine, even the smell makes me want to yack lol.
As for food, I truly try so hard to like tomatoes and just cant stomach them. I can eat very small peices but only if its cooked and even then I would much prefer not to. I dont eat plain tomato soup, I hate salsa, and even ketchup makes me a bit queesy. I wish I could learn to like them though because they are so good for you but.....
I also cant stomach anything vinegary and or pickled or with mustard. And like Abbie H. stated anything black licorice flavoured. I also have tried for all of my life to like bananas and they will never be okay to eat by me. YUCK
I do however LOVE broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, peas, zucchini, asperagus, and apples

Lobster and crab. My husband LOVES it, but I don't. They both are so expensive that I really don't care to keep trying.

Oysters - I can barely watch hubby eat them without feeling the beginning of a gag reflex.

Coconut, pears, strawberries and raspberries. These are a texture aversion (except coconut). I can't get past the texture to even taste the fruit. I cannot stand biting into the seeds on strawberries and raspberries, it grosses me out!

Lamb... The taste gags me. Of course, there are a lot of things I don't eat because of environmental reasons, ethical reasons, etc. (not because of taste or texture). But never have been able to enjoy lamb, no matter how fancy the restaurant.

And I've never acquired the taste for beer.

I have to agree with some of the other ladies about BEER! It is foul and I swear it's just urine in a bottle. Last night I was feeling brave and made my hubby a corona with a lime in it, and some of the beer splashed onto my hand when i shoved the lime through the top. I was gagging so hard and washed my hands about 10 times because I couldn't get that yeasty, nasty, smell off of my hand!! I love me some alcohol, but NOT beer!

such a funny question. because i think everyone has there hang ups when it comes to food. My list is some what strange. No cherries, no pineapple, no coconut and no punch. BUT if the cherries are fresh every once in a blue moon i will eat about ten then no more for a few yrs. Coconut rum is my favorite and fresh coconut shavings on fruit cups is ok unless it is a few days old then no thank you. Pineapple and red punch are a never.

I find this amusing because after five yrs together I realized my husband is a food pusher. He will convence you to try something even if you know you dont like it. He will go on about how this one is different and its soooo good you just gotta try it. I would try it (usually it was coconut cake) and of course it was discusting and he would be shocked. So I finally told him I was a grown woman and know that I do not like certian things and dont have to taste it. Way rude but the polite was not working. Now Bee's Mom your a grown woman by now you should accept that your taste buds arent fans of certian foods :)
