I use pre-folds and fitteds with covers as well as the pocket diapers (Fuzzi-Bunz and Bum Genius). The pocket diapers were a lot more "dad-friendly" but my husband is now totally comfortable with the pre-folds. I still like having the pocket diapers because they are the most like disposables so when I have someone babysit they use those. Personally, I do not like the All-In-Ones. They took forever to dry. For night time I use a wool cover. Good Luck!

I have been using gdiapers, but I recently decided to start using cloth diapers instead. They would save us more money in the long run and I am hoping they'll be more comfortable for my baby. The website www.diaperpin.com is really helpful if you're considering cloth diapers. Good luck!

I just switched my newborn over to cloth and am currently using prefolds and diaper covers for him. they are definitely the most economical way to do it. I think they are $1.75 a diaper and the diaper covers were about $12.95 a piece. I bought 2 dozen diapers and 4 covers. I could easily use more but I figured in a few more weeks he'll be pooping less and I won't be changing him quite so often. I did buy one Fuzzi Bunz but haven't used it yet but I tried it on him and it is so nice and so soft and fits great. The size small goes up to 20 lbs I think so you get a lot of use out of one size. Bumgenius makes a one size pocket diaper that I've also tried that's great, it goes up to 35 lbs so you basically never have to buy another one.
Be By Baby at Roscoe/Lincoln/Paulina has a class every few weeks that was definitely worth taking. She talked alot about the different styles of diapers but also about cleaning, etc.
good luck. It's a bit overwhelming at first but you get the hang of it after about a week.

Most affordable would be high quality cotton prefolds with a cover. You can either pin them or use a "snappi" to hold them closed, and they work great. Only downside is that they may intimidate your husband. Since you're at home, you don't need to worry about daycare providers. Otherwise you can go with a "fitted" type diaper - these are similar to the prefolds but have elastic at the legs and waist and usually snap instead of being pinned - you still need a cover though.

I agree with another poster - the reviews at www.diaperpin.com are VERY helpful. There are many more expensive "systems" out there like pocket diapers etc, but the prefolds are definitely eco-friendly and economical. They cost $1.50 to $2.00 each and you'd want about 24 of them so that you can wash every 2-3 days. You probably only need about 3 covers - maybe 4 - and those will cost you around $10 each. I like the Motherease airflow ones, though there are many to choose from.

Hi A.!
I used Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers. They are so soft and cushy and come in so many different colors. You do have to buy a special detergent to wash them st home, if you don't use a service. The website is www.fuzzibunz.com.

Good luck to you!

A.,
babyworks.com has a nice "starter" kit of various types of cloth diapers. It has 6 different brands so that you can see which one works for you. They have great customer service and a very liberal return policy, too.
Good luck finding a system that works for you!

Cloth diapers are fabulous! We switched from disposables to cloth when my son was 6 months old and used them until he was 2 yrs old. Not only are they environmentally friendly, but they work better in my opinion. We tried a variety of kinds, and our favorites were definitely the fuzzibunz. They're soft on their bum, easy to stuff with any kind of liner (we used the microfiber cloths you can buy at Walmart), and aren't bulky. Good luck! Going to cloth is a commitment and will seem like a major expense up front, but we sold all of his diapers for the majority of what we paid for them, and in the long run, they were cheaper than disposables.
