Tylenol Question

I think my 6 1/2 month old daughter is teething but can't be certain as she's been drooling for months and my mom said that I didn't get teeth until I was a year old. Either way, she's stopped sleeping through the night. She won't nap and has stopped sleeping through the night. I give her tylenol or ibuprofen and that helps her sleep during the night but I don't want to have to give her medicine every night. Is there anything else I can do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I think she's hitting a growth spurt because she was able to fall asleep last night without any tylenol. Guess I'll just have to wait it out until she starts sleeping through the night again!

I would take her to the doctor. She might have an ear infection. They don't always "rub their ears" when they have one, but sleeping becomes difficult because the pain increases when they lay down.

My daughter started teething at 5 months so it really varies. She also stopped sleeping through the night at that time. I really love Hyland's Teething Tablets. You can get them in most pharmacies (Walgreens has them). They are 100% natural and they seem to work. They are tiny and melt in a babies's mouth.
I highly recommend them!

Good luck

I disagree with Miranda....tylenol will not loose it's effectiveness if you use it to much. If you are only giving it to her at bedtime, I don't see a problem with it. She needs her sleep. You didn't say how long you have been using it? I agree to try Hylands. I have never used it, but it is worth a shot.

baby orajel worked good for our daughter. and at 6 months old, you shouldn't be giving ibuprofen. I asked my doctor about it once, for our daughter when she was teething, and he just about yelled at me for it. apparently ibuprofen isn't safe until they're about a year old?

Hyland's Teething Tablets are amazing! I would try those instead of tylenol! Good luck!

Have you tried Orajel? There is a "nighttime" formula (I think it has 10.5% of the main ingredient instead of 7% - or something like that)...we used that this weekend and it worked wonders. You may want to try that accompanied with the teething tablets to see if that works.

Mine stopped sleeping through the night at that age too. It had nothing to do with teething. It was just a phase. It was like he learned I was somewhere and he needed to summon me to make sure he was right, I did still exist. This passed after a few months. We never cried it out. The drugs tend to make them a tad sleepy so that may be why you see an improvement on them. That's my experience anyways only you can see how she acts and truely decide if it's necessary to give her drugs. GL

Hylands Teething Tablets worked well with our first. I would NOT be giving tylenol every night...... When she will really need it, it won't be as effective if she's been given it too often. (Not to mention, you don't want her to HAVE to have it to sleep!) I've seen articles in Parenting magazines about the over-use of tylenol and other medications a few times just recently!

Try bringing her to the chiropractor too...... IF she would have an ear infection that usually clears it up with NO medication!

try Oragel ... it numbs the area you put it on. Just be careful not to get it on your furniture b/c it stained the entire top of our white bookcase.

If you don't feel any swelling or see any white spots on her gums I would take her into the doctor. It could also be an ear infection.
