We are going on a 5 day trip, taking our 3 yr old, but leaving our 7 month old at home with his grandparents. I don't want my milk supply to suffer, and I have a double Medela electric pump that I plan to carry on the plane (but where will I plug it in??) and basically have with me all the time, i guess. But my question is, have any of you been in this situation, and how did you find outlets to plug into at airports, or when away from home? We'll be in a big city and probably far from our hotel for most of the day sightseeing- are there any tips you've got for me?? How can I do this??
Any advice will be welcome. We leave in less than a week. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Battery pack! Great idea, I didn't know about this. They don't make them for the model I have, but I was able to borrow one from a friend. It's also much smaller, so it fits into my purse/diaper bag/grocery carrier/first aid kit/family arsenal. Thanks a bunch!

Do you have The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding? In it is an excellent description of two ways to hand express. This would decrease or eliminate the need for a pump.
If you don't have this book, your local library will likely have it.

I know that Medela makes a battery pack for some pumps. i had one for mine and it worked great. You can find it online at medela.com. Have a great trip and enjoy your daughter.

I don't know about the electrical outlet locations in airports or on planes, but Medela does make battery packs and vehicle adapters to work with the electric pumps. Check with a pump rental location about renting one or both of the adapters.

I would recommend getting a battery pack for the Medela pump if it's available for your model or buying a hand pump. I used a hand pump when I traveled when my daughter was 8 months old and it worked pretty well once I got the hang of it. The only problem is that you have to pump one side at a time, but it actually seemed to be faster than the electric pump, just not as comfortable. I doubt you will be able to find the electrical outlets you'll need, so it's probably best to try to make other arrangements.

Have a great trip!
