Thank You Gift Question

My family (4 of us) recently stayed at the one of my husbands old high school friend for a few days. They fed us dinner while at their home one night. We did show up with 2 bottles of wine when we first arrived. We pretty much did our own thing exploring the town all day and would be there at night.

We also stayed in their vacation home (alone) for almost a week. We paid the cleaning fees for the vacation home.

I know this family probably doesn't expect a "gift" but we are unsure if we just send a thank you card, or do more. They are health conscious, so a box of chocolates won't do. My husband is not a fan of flowers as they die. The wife does love landscaping/gardening. They have everything, so we just don't know a kind jesture besides a thank you card.

Thoughts... Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Krista and Denise had great suggestions. I'm all for a well thought out, personally written thank you note... and since your husband isn't a fan of flowers, and they're healthy, why not a fruit basket? Or they make those 'edible arrangements'... they are kind of pricey, but someone sent me a little one once and it was awesome!

I would send a hand-written thank you note and a gift certificate to a local nursery so they can add to their beautiful home.

Krista offered a great idea! Or a card for a nice dinner out--I think all families appreciate that.

And while some people perceive gift cards as "impersonal" -- I think they are a very practical gift!

What we've done when using a vacation home is to buy something for the house--artwork, linens, etc....but we usually leave them there the week we are there...

do you have a picture of the vacation home. one very memorable gift would be to have that picture turned into a painting on canvas.

if the wife loves landscaping you could send a potted plant, bonsai, lilly, gladiola or something. It wont die, because the lady will take care of it.

i like the edible arrangement idea for healthy folks.

We have sent a cool basket of nice cheeses and crackers and a cool cutting board to family friends that we stayed with once. They also have everything, but enjoy cooking and entertaining so we thought this would be great. I found it online on a website that delivers these kind of gifts
