Teething Rail

My daughter is almost a year and just started to chew on her crib. This morning I went to get her out of bed and there was black paint around her mouth and a chunk out of the side rail! I have one of the big, thick cribs that converts to a toddler bed. Normal crib rail covers will not work so I bought the Gummi rail and it said not to use on distressed wood (the crib is black, distressed wood) Does anyone know of a fabric solution? Or any other advice? I need some info in a hurry before she chews her crib to pieces! :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay here is what I came up with. I used those small recieving blankets that come four to a pack and folded them around the rails (like padding) then I cut another blanket in strips and tied the blankets down with it in between the bars. Then I cut off the end of the knots to be safe. It seems like a pretty good solution and the blankets are cute colors so it doesnt look horrible.

OMG! My kid never did that. Maybe need to feed her more before she goes to bed. But I'll hold onto the advice too in case my 2nd baby does that.

My daughter did the same thing!!! I bought these clear plastic things that go over the crib at BabiesR'Us. She never chewed the crib again!! The little plastic things work as a teether too I guess cause she liked the feeling but there haven't been any new marks since purchasing those! Good Luck!!

Hi A.,
WOW..My son chewed his crib also, but not as much as your wee one. I tried to do a research on what you can use to protect the rail, and your little girl from chewing, but couldn't find anything except the Gummi rail which you already have. The only other thing that I would try if I were in your shoes, is get a sheet and wrap it around, intertwinning (sp?) it through the gate and wrapping it up around the top and tieing it on the ends. Does this make sense? This way when she goes to chew on the rail, she'll be chewing on the sheet instead. Make sure there are no gaps in the sheet so that she doesn't get caught in it by accident, and make sure you tie it to where she can't get it loose. If I find anything else for you to try, I'll email you. G.

FOUND something for you! :-) Here are two links you can look at to see if they will best suit your needs:

get one of those foam tubes for the pool and wrap a large bath towel around it and slip ot over the rail. the towel can be washed when dirty and replaced with another towel

How about trying a pool noodle? You could put it over the edge by cutting it in half and then securing it with zip ties. You could cover it with a coordinating fabric first ;)

Best of luck!

I'd put her into the toddler bed asap, starting with nap time today...be prepaired to put up a kiddie gate at the door to her room. The 'distressed' wood on her crib can't be good for her to be eating. If you cannot make the bed into a toddler bed without your hubby's help then put her crib mattress on the floor.

Your child is teething and probably trying to tell you that she needs a new bed she's a big girl now and she wants a big girl bed lol..... try popsicles, a teether etc... her teeth probably really bothering her. And just start telling her now that's not good she will understand. Just keep telling her untill she stop offer her something else where she won't think about it. She will be o.k. : )
