Hello! My 13 month old did not get his first teeth until he was about 9 1/2 months old when both of his bottom teeth came in at once. His top front teeth are starting to come in, although they have not broke through the gum yet. Over the weekend, I was fishing through his mouth to get out a piece of dog food he had picked up (he will eat ANYTHING off the floor, unfortunately), and I felt something hard in the back of his mouth. After further investigation, one of his back teeth has broken through on the right side. How abnormal is it that his back teeth would come in before the front teeth? Does this signal any abnormalities that I might need to worry about? Has anyone else's child have their teeth come in the wrong order? Thanks!!!
Hi M. my daughter got her back teeth first. They came in all different order. She didnt get her first tooth till she was 10 months old. Nothing abnormal came about it. She is now 3 and has all of her teeth and they are all straight so I dont think you have anything to worry about.

My son ate the dog food out of the bowl once, gross!!! But, about the teeth my pediatrician assured me that each child gets their teeth in their own way. Anthony didn't get his first tooth till he was 14 months old, I was convinced he wasn't going to have ANY teeth. His just started popping up in every place and out of order after that until they were all where they needed to be. Try not to worry and just get through the teething nightmare with just the sore gums. If of course you are still worried consult the peds or dentist.

My oldest had his come in normal however my youngest one isnt the same way. He has 4 on the top, 3 on the bottom. lately hes been very fussy and I checked his gums. here he has a back molar on each side that has come thru.hes now 14 months. so sometimes it works that way. so far nothing abnormal has happened. My daughter is now 17 months old and only has her 2 bottom teeth and 4 top teeth. She started having "teething" symptoms when she was like 6 months old, but the first teeth didn't come in until 10 months (bottoms, both at the same time) Then she got her 2 latteral incisors (not the 2 very front teeth, but the 2 on the sides) so she looked like a vampire for a month or so before the 2 fronts came in. I feel like she has been cutting all of the rest of the teeth since her first birthday. Gums are swollen and white, feels hard in her mouth, but NO MORE TEETH have come in. I used to be a dental assistand before I had her, so I am pretty much preprogramed not to worry too much. I think all kids grow at their own pace. A neighbor of ours has a little girl 2 days younger than my daughter, and she has ALL of her teeth already. I guess we should just wait to see. I think if your son had NO teeth at all by 18 months then you need to be concerned, but it sounds like he is growing faster than my daughter anyway!
My niece did not get ANY teeth until she was 13 months old, then got a surge of teeth all at once (tops, bottoms, and backs). Each child is different so I'd say if there is bleeding, sores in the mouth, unconsolable crying or anything unusual, then that would be cause for concern. Hang in there :)
Do not worry about the order of tooth eruption. As long as teeth are coming in, that is ok. If you are concerned, take your son to a pediatric dentist for a quick check. I would not worry about it. He'll have all his baby teeth in by about 2-3; as long as they all come in, we usually don't worry.

My kids got their 2 top and 2 bottom front teeth then after that they were all out of order. Our pediatrician said it isn't uncommon for that to happen and that I shouldn't worry about it.

I don't think there is a thing to worry about. My mom loves to tell the story, but I had no teeth until after my 2nd Birthday. Looking at my baby book, I think the back teeth were some of the first to come in. My mom wrote a bunch of notes and has all kinds of letters from Dentists that she took me to when she was making sure I was ok. If you have any doubts I would call your dentist, or even better when youor your husband have your next checkup let your little man sit on your lap and have the dentist pretend to give him a checkup as well. This will probably cost you nothing and both you and the little guy will have some peace of mind. It will also get him started on the road to liking the dentist.
