Hi - we are moving to CO Springs this Spring and I want to start to look into activities for the kids and ways to meet other families. Does anyone have recommendations for sports, swimming, "mommy & me" activites, playgroups, camps, etc. We are American but my kids have not lived in an English-speaking country before (we are living in Europe), so any kind of summer programs for the 4 year old that could encourage language development would be great too. Thanks so much!

I own M. Children's Fitness center and we offer mommy and me classes as well as playgroups, camps, parents' night out and birthday parties. i would love to have you come by and take a free guest class. If you decide to enroll your children and tell me you got this message from me, I will take 50% off your membership fees.

Swimming inside at Cottonwood Creek is pretty good. Villa sport has a new outdoor pool opening, but you have to be a member there to swim. Thanks!

Hi J. my name is K., I live in fountain approx 10 min from springs, I work on the north side of springs so sometimes juggling the kids with there activities can be tuff. I really recommend the YMCA, they have many locations all through town and offer a varity of activites, sports and wonderful swimming lessons. They also tend to be the most affordable organization. My son's are ages 2 and 5. My oldest has done swimming, soccor, t-ball and currently Karate, all through the YMCA, there website is www.ppymca.org Also I would love to meet you, I'm always looking for someone that has things in common, our kids our basically the same ages. If your interested in meeting, maybe planning a playdate with the kids or taking them out for a hike at one of the local parks. Let me know, my email address is ____@____.com Good luck on your journey, you'll love Colorado!!

Hi J. -
I have a 5 and 2 year old - we enjoy Kindermusic through Feel the Beat Studios (Lisa Johnson -- they run summer sessions, you'd have to look up the phone online), My Gym, The YMCAs have lots of good swimming programs, Colorado springs government (I think its springs.gov) offers swimming, ice skating and general sports programs through a variety of community centers, Bemis Art Institute offers art classes for ages 2 and up.

Good luck!

I was wondering if you are military? There are Skiies classes and sports on post you can enroll the 4 yr. old in. There are also YMCA's all around the city that have a lot to offer.

J.,
the ymca's here are great. the offer team sports (even if your not a member) and great activities if you are a member. there are also great easy hiking trails for having picnics at places like palmer park (east side) or garden of the gods (west side). there are lots of parks around town for palydates too. if you are on the west side of town, bear creek nature center is really neat. they even have little classes and guided activities for kids that you can sign up for. the pikes peak library distric has fun summer programs for all ages as well, like story time, reading programs, and learning activities. sometimes it's hard to find out about things in the springs area, but just poke around on the city website and you can usually find out what's going on around town. good luck!

J., I worked for the city aquatics department for about 5 years as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and manager. Their lessons are fairly inexpensive (around $30 for 10 30min classes)and they have both indoor and outdoor facilities around town. It's been almost 5 years since i quit, but at the time I was working they had pretty good teachers and their methods of teaching are in my opinion much better than the Y. They also, at most pools, have lifeguards on duty during lessons. Most other pools do not. They have water waddles classes which are mommy and me classes, but I think they stop at 2yrs. If you're able to put them in am lessons during the school year, you will get the more experienced teachers. The city offers several other sports for kids, but I don't have any experience with them. If you have any questions regarding their swim lessons or any other facilities feel free to send me a message.

All the YMCA's have tons of activities and sports that my kids love (my kids are 2 & 4). There is also a mommy walking group every Friday morning at 9 at Monument Valley Park. The 3rd Friday of the month is also a brunch potluck. Everyone has strollers or young children, so the pace is very moderate. Great time to chat and get to know other moms in a laid-back environment
