Help! I am seeking swim lessons for my 3 and 5 year olds....I love the Park District classes, but they always fill up immediately. I would consider a private lesson if that is the only way to go. Swim safety is critical to me. Chicago area preferred.

My daughter took lessons at the Lakeview YMCA last year, when she was five. I was concerned about safety as well, but felt comfortable with the set up: each class is split into small groups with an instructor for each group, and there's a lifeguard who oversees the entire class. I thought the cost was very reasonable.

I am a member, but my sons are grown so I can't advise about children's programs.

I don't know where in the city you are, but Wilbur Wright Community college offers adult and child swimming lessons.

Keep trying to get into the park district lessons. You can sign up for an email that they'll send you and let's you know when sign ups begin. Also, the YMCA's are great. We love the one at Lincoln, a couple blocks north of Belmont. Also, the University of Chicago (athletics.uchicago.edu) has community swim schools lessons.

My kids learned to swim at St Pat's high school summer camps but they have to be school age.
I have heard really good things about the Wright College Aquatic Department 4300 N Narragansett ###-###-####. They have a class for 1-3 & 3-5 year olds.

You could try the YMCA. I believe they closed the New City Y (Halsted and North Ave) but my sister goes to one on Irving Park. I do not know the address there. My niece's daughter took lessons there.

Not sure where in Chicago you live but my son took lessons at the Park at NTA. The National Teachers Academy (NTA) is a CPS/park district double building combo. It's locatted at 55 W. Cermak near China Town. The classes were great and didn't fill up fast. We went for 2 sessions. hope this helps

We have been going to the Edgewater Athletic Club for just over a year now - and we LOVE it. Its at Granville and Kenmore (Granville and Sheridan) They have Saturday morning and Tuesday evening classes and a new session starts next week. Allison and Paul the instructors are AWESOME. The next session is $96 and goes through the end of April.
