Hi ladies,

I'm looking for suggestions for exercise for myself while watching my 4 yr. old. I've been to a gym w/ child care and I've used various DVDs and tapes in the living room, but they're just not cutting it. I'd really like to find a pick-up basketball or tennis game, something w/ some interaction. Any ideas?

Thanks,

M.

LifeTime Fitness has a wonderful child care area. My son is 6 and I have never been able to get him to go to the child care at any gym until we started going to LifeTime last summer. Good luck.

My best suggestion is go out and buy the kids game Hyperdash. It's about $20. I have 3 daughters also so it's hard for me to exercize but with this game we all enjoy our exercise and it is pretty tiring. What you do is spread out five discs throughout the house. Then you have a handle which tells you what color or number to race to and strike with the handle. It incorporates a lot of running and for adults a lot of squats to smash the discs. My kids love it and I do too. I absolutely recommend it for all ages. Good Luck!

Infinity Fitness Academy in Tempe has a great program to exercise while your child "works" right along with you. I take both my kiddos with me to my personal training sessions. I know they offer boot camps which offers lots of interaction. Best of all, I have lost a TON of fat & weight to get into sizes I haven't seen in over 9 years! I suggest calling Dave at ###-###-#### for more specific information.

Check out your local Parks and Recreation. They may have some kind of fun class, for your daughter while you play some basketball in the gym. It's a good place to start.

Good luck,

Wii fit :) Sometimes it's all I have time for. Otherwise they have basketball games over at Lifetime Fitness.

I strongly recommend the Wii Fit! It did wonders for me, and my 3 year old LOVES doing the exercises with me. My husband and I both used this to help us get back to our prebaby weight (he gained sympathy weight) and it worked for both of us. Now we are using it to help us tone up. :) Good luck!

Have you checked into the Gene Autry Tennis Center? (www.mesatennis.com) They have drop in classes, or you can sign up for 4 week sessions (once a week) they have a cardio tennis class.

Hi M.,

I have taken up Tae Kwon Do for exercise and it is very intense and has a lot of interactions especially when you get to the grappling and sparing. You may want to look around at the various Martial Arts studios in your area and try it out. I attend Ernie Reyes West Coast Martial Arts 3 nights a week right now until I upgrade my membership and then I will go 4 or 5 nights a week. I am sure there are some studios open during the day. The one I go to does not as my instructor attends the U of A during the day.
