My son out grew his Jeep Stroller about a year ago. Since then we've had no luck finding one that we could use just for when we travel or for events. He's 3 1/2 feet tall and I want one thats going to hold up to 80lbs so we could use it for atleast two years until he's too tall for it as he is 40lbs now so some of them he's too big for. We dont have anymore children so a sit and stand wouldnt work. We've also thought about pull wagons but they wont work in air ports or places like that. Thanks for all your help =)

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great adivce. I am looking at the bob gear right now and jogging stroller. We use to have the jeep stroller from Walmart it was only $40, but his legs are too long for it. We're only needing it for once in awhile, like this past weekend we went to husander farms and it was huge. He was worn out before we even got to see the circus, so a stoller would have been wonderful to have to let him take a break so we could see everything. Thanks again everyone, your a great group of ladies =)

T.,

It is time for him to walk. He is old enough to walk in an airport, and I'm not sure where else you are thinking of using the stroller. My son is 3 1/2 and the only places he will use a stroller are the airport and the zoo. Mine is much smaller, only 39" tall and 31 pounds, but he is sure that strollers are for babies, not big boys.

I've not seen any 5 year olds in strollers, so you may wish for a stroller a few more times on flights or "events" but there really is no need for it. If you are concerned about keeping track of him, we use a "monkey backpack" that is actually a backpack/harness in the airport now. We fly 6-8 times per year, and haven't used a stroller since just after his 3rd bday.

Congratulations on your "big boy"! C.

I second getting a BOB. I have a single (the revolution) for my 8 month old and i love it. I can't imagine that I will ever need another stroller. It is sooo roomy. Very easy to push and I love it. You can get one at target.com for a little less than from bob directly and if you get the Stroller Strides Bob (from Target) it comes with a cup holder for mom and some resistance bands for workouts, if you were interested in that.

BOB strollers are also good when you have taller kids, and can work for some kids up until around age 6. The drawback is that they are really expensive. We found ours on clearance on an online site a few years ago. They are actually designed for jogging/running, but work great for walking too! They are rated for up to 70 lbs. Don't know if a single would fold up more compactly, we have a double and we transport it in our truck. It takes absolutely no effort to push them.

When you say jeep stroller I'm curious as to which one you mean. We have had the three wheel jeep since my daughter was born and she still fits great as a tall almost three year old. I can tell you that it will hold 80 lbs because we have caught my 12 yr old son using it as a chair, not sure exactly what it's rated for though. The three wheel design is great for the theme parks or on rough terrain. Hope this helps.

Boy..............mothers sure can be critical of each other, can't they? Sometimes I am really surprised at how some people respond to these message boards.

I've heard good things about the Perfect Match by Combi. It's under $100.00.

Good luck!

Some people just give the worst advise on here! I am with you T., we have 2 kids (4 and 2) and we still put the 4 year old in the stroller when we go places. It makes it easier on everyone. Some people may think that is too old for a stroller, I however think it's fine and would never subject my children to being on a "leash" they are not animals and therefore should not be treated as one!

We have a McLaren Volo which we bought for travel and now we always use it. It is so light and easy to use and holds up to 55lbs.

The reason you are having trouble finding a stroller is because once they hit 40 lbs it is unhealthy for you to be wheeling them around. Unless he has some physical disability, how about making him walk. If you insist on using a stroller if he does not already, you can bet he will have a weight issue soon. Do him the favor of making him carry is own weight, he'll thank you for it later. I'm trying to find a stroller that can hold 150 lbs so my son can push me for a change.

Thanks for posting T., I have been wondering the same thing recently (big girl stroller, in my case). I haven't found one yet that I wanted to invest in, but I will check out the suggestions you got here. My situation is a bit different and I hope Christine S reads this as well. My daughter is actually 4 1/2 - yes, Christine, you read that correctly. But my daughter is the size of a 2-3 year old. So I am not looking for a bigger stroller necessarily, just one that is sturdy and not baby-ish looking. My daughter CAN walk well and has pretty good endurance, but sometimes it is just physically exhausting for her to try to keep up with us with her little legs. These days I let her call the shots; I tell her in advance where we are going and let her make the choice (walk or ride). I always keep a stroller in the trunk either way. I think Mommy always knows best for her little one(s). So I hope T. doesn't feel belittled after C.S.'s comments.

Hi T.,
When my daughter was three, we bought a MacLaren Volo. We love it. She's five and we still take it to Disney (occasionally my nine year old will sit in it for a break). My husband and I are both tall, and we love the fact that the handles are higher than most strollers. The only downside is that it doesn't come with a cup holder, but I think you can buy one separately and attach it.
Good Luck!
L.
