Strange Period / When Am I Ovulating?

We have been trying to get pregnant for about 5 months now and I have been having a weird cycle. I have been up to 3 weeks pregnant every month since we started and all pregnancy tests have been negative. I even had blood work done last month which showed I wasn't pregnant too. My period has been normal when I finally get it, except for this month and last month. I spot for about a 4 days to a week then it comes on with full force. So, I guess my question is what do you all think and what does this mean about my ovulation time? I have been using ovulation strips, but I am having trouble figuring out when I am actually ovulating...it is hard to read them - sometimes there is a faint line for a couple days and sometimes not...also should I use morning urine? We did this one time, the second time is throwing me for a loop. Thanks in advance for your help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much...I will try that fertility book and take my temp in the morning...We'll just keep up 'the trying' - Not that I'm complaining about that!

I used the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler with both my girls and it worked like a charm both times. I have passed it on and it's worked for my friends, too. It teaches you to look for signs of ovulation by taking your basal body temperature first thing in the morning, watching for cervical mucus to show when you are ovulating, and listening to other signs your body gives you. Since you only have a couple of days' window for getting pregnant, it helps you hone in on those days to maximize your chances. One thing I learned is that every cycle is different, you just have to learn how to follow your unique cycle. Also, you could be getting pregnant and not even know it if it doesn't take, and you just get your period a few days late. If you already have one child, you know you CAN get pregnant, it's just making the best use of your ovulation days. It will happen! I agree with the other response as well - it took us a lot less time with my second because I wasn't as focused on it as I was the first time. Relax and TRY to have fun with it! Good luck!

I always had a very strange period..but it was normal for me. And having a baby can change your cycles too. I would suggest taking your temp to find ovulation. Thats what I did to conceive my daughter. You buy a basal thermometer. When you wake before you get out of bed or really move around too much you take your temp and write it down...create a log of dates and temps. Your temp will stay fairly even until you reach ovulation. The day before you ovulate you tend to see a dip in temp, then a spike. That would be the time to try and conceive. Check out www.fertilityfriend.com to help you. You can create an online chart to show you in graph form what your temps look like and they will help with any questions. Hope this helps.

I highly recommend a book called "Taking charge of your fertility". I have very irregular periods and so does my sister in law. We both used it and we both got pregnant on the first try.

I recommend that you go to the library or bookstore to get "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". A friend lent it to me and I found the information in it invaluable. It covers topics including birth control, ovulation, menstrual cycle and all things of that nature. You will learn a lot and be less confused about your cycle. When my husband and I tried to conceive our first child it tooks many months and fertility drugs. The second time I got pregnant within weeks, despite a crazy cycle. Good Luck!

You may actually be conveiving, but it doesn't go through completely. I'm have the same problem! Try using the Clear Blue fertility monitor. It's pricey, but worth it. Make sure you have a consistant diet and don't over do it with exercise or add new activities. You're body might be very sensitive, and things like this can effect your ability to become pregnant. Try not to think about it so much too. The more you do, the more your mind is getting confused. Just tell yourself that you're cycle is normal and you will have a baby soon!

I also used "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and found it to be a great resource and helped me know exactly when I ovulated. It's definitely worth reading and having.
