Recently within the past few weeks or so I've notices my son grouping like items. This morning he brought me all his balls lol, sometimes he'll bring his books. He's also been matching his food toys, he has green grapes and purple grapes and finds the pair of them. It's like a matching game that no ones asked him to do lol. It's really very cute and he doesn't do it constantly, just something I noticed him start doing. Is this normal for this age? Thank you for reading (:

What can I do next?

It is NORMAL.
At this age, or from this age, they do this.
Both my kids did that too.
It is all developmental based.
And totally, NORMAL.
It means, he is developing, normally.
They categorize and group things. size, shapes, colors, types etc.
Normal.

Totally normal. He's noticing same and different in his world.

When there are social issues along with obsessive organizing, that's more of a flag of a possible issue.

It's normal.

We're hardwired to see patterns. It's how we survive. Babies start with seeing basic patterns and groups...and will often physically put them together or try to show mommy and daddy what they see. He's looking for validation that his seeing a pattern is good.

It's normal. He's realized that things can be sorted into groups. He probably does it with people in his head too.

He sounds very bight-because no one is asking him to do this-and he is making sophisticated observations on his own-brilliant!

Finding patterns is a huge step in developing a mathematical mind!
My oldest, 32 on ACT, was a master at it!

100% perfectly normal and a great sign that he's learning. Grouping and sorting is one of the most common toddler behaviors in terms of development.

Totally normal as long as he is interested in other things and people too! I worried because my toddler was always lining things up in lines or even grids. As long as that isn't the only way he plays with his toys it's fine. (ie always lining up cars or trains instead of playing with cars and trains).

I IS totally normal, however IF you notice it becoming obsessive - to the point where he meltsdown if they are out of order you may want to bring that up to the pedi.

I only say that because it is something I was encouraged to look out for while my son was being evaluated.

Something totally fun to do is to give him a bunch of canned goods and have him sort them while you put away the groceries.

Yes, it's normal. He is comprehending the world around him...noticing things feel different, look different, sound different...etc.

He might start separating things into colors too....enjoy!!! It's sooo fun when the kids are at this age!!
