Sleep Sacks - Island Lake, IL

I was given the advice when my little ones were babies..."if you're hot, they're hot too." When it is super hot, like it was today...I would have them sleep in just a short sleeved onsie. Chillier day, I would use one of those long sleeved night gowns that has elastic at the bottom. Those were my fave jammies!

Congratulations!!! My sister in law makes them and sells them at craft shows. They have no sleeves and have a zipper. She said they work up to about 6 months. She sells a ton of them!! If you are interested let me know, I can get you her info, she can UPS them to you. She also makes a car seat cover that everyone loves.... I bought my grandaughter a really cute winter coat and she barley even wore it because of the car seat cover!!! Lesson learned!!

right now, I'm just putting my 8 week old in those gowns with the elastic bottom. it's like a nightgown. she's been just fine with only that.

I had one born in July and one in August. They usually slept in onesies, long sleeve or short depending on the night temp, and swaddled. I tried to keep a ceiling fan going, on low (especially with the humidty so high) but that seemed to work for them. Remember a little cooler is better b/c it helps them breathe.

Sleep sacks are the best...you can get them from One Step Ahead...they have Halo sacks that zip from top to bottom so the zipper doesn't pinch the baby's neck. Also, a long sleeve onsie is good, especially w/air conditioning. Is the baby in a bassinete? That will also help to keep them warmer. You're off to a great start! Good luck...P.

I had my baby last July and she loved to be swaddled (well actually she needed to be) and we used the Kiddopatamus swaddling blankets. With the air conditioning on, I had her in that with a short sleeved onesie and that seemed to work. She is now 11 months old so I can't remember how long we used that but it seemed like quite awhile.

We also used those nightgowns when she was a little older.

And just until recently she has been using the sleepsacks. We still use them if it is cooler in the house than normal. Otherwise now we just use a long sleeved sleeper with footies.

We keep our house fairly chilly, I have my 4 month old in regular footed jammies under the sleep sack and he sleeps comfortably. He is not too hot, because like I said we keep our house cold. And then the sleep sack acts as a blanket. Works great!

My pediatrician cautioned me that parents (especially new ones) tend to over-dress their babies. He told me that a diaper and a hat is all my son should wear at night, and that was during the winter!! I never went to that level until he passed the one-year mark (and now that's how he sleeps, he's fussy and uncomfortable otherwise), but I put him in just long-sleeve onesies during the winter, and short-sleeve onesies when it became warmer.

We use Halo Sleepsacs in a lightweight cotton knit (not fleece). For your little one's age, you could also swaddle in a linen or seersucker fabric blanket.

It depends how cool your home is. I've always heard that with newborns, you should dress them one layer warmer than you dress yourself. If it's fairly warm, you could do a short-sleeve onesie with a sleep sack.

Congrats on your new little addition!! My son was born in June and I used sleep sacks. Depending on the night he either wore a lightweight long sleeved onesie or a short sleeve along with the sleep sack. This seemed to work fine!! If you have good AC I'd say long sleeve onsie and the sleep sack!! Congrats again!!!

Depending on how cool you keep your home, the long sleeve onesie is definitely a good choice. Otherwise I would do a onesie with light sheet over the bottom half of him/her. Your child should be as comfortable as you in warm weather. Good Luck!

i never used a sleep sack with my daughter, i guess i just never tried it, she was born last June and in the summer, we had our air on and her swaddled until about 1 month old, then she was in a long sleeved and footed onesie. she was fine. right now she just sleeps in her 2 peice pj's and she's fine.

It really depends on your daughter. My son was born in July and from day one he never liked any thing tight or holding him down. He never wanted to swaddled and he hated his cradle. (My husband built the cradle with his own to hand) So at a very early age he slept in just a onesie but we did not have central air we just had a window unit in our living room. We also purchased a few 2 piece light weight cotton 2 piece PJ for him.
How cool do you keep your house is one question to ask yourself and you also need to look at is she a child that seems to get cold easily. If not something light a breezy is the way to go.

It depends on how cold you keep your home. If you use the AC, I found that a regular cotton sleeper and the knit (not fleece) sleep sac is fine. I heard the rule, dress them as comfortable as you would be, keeping in mind you put covers over yourself as well. You can get them at BRU or BuyBuyBaby. You don't want them to overheat, but they don't have the built in insulation we have, too.

whatever you get make sure it is 100% cotton....this is the ONLY fabric that breathes and will help to maintain/control babies temp, since they cannot at this point. personnally I swaddled my son all summer long with him ina onsie, I had great 100% cotton flannel swaddling blankets that my mom made for me that I now make for friends and to sell
