Does anyone have any advice out there? My 2 boys have been sick on and off since Christmas break. I am getting overwhelemed! My oldest had a bad case of the flu along with a cold. That cleared up and then a bout a month later he got another bad cold ( with fever) That cleared up finally, and then a few weeks ago he came down with it again. I took him in to the Dr. and he had a sinus infection, he has been on atibiotics for 2 weeks and last Thurs after taking his last dose he woke up Friday with another fever of 102 and no other symtoms. The fever went away but now he has a runny nose and he says his legs ache so bad he cant walk his calve muscels (sp?) Then my 3 almost 4 yr old came down with a fever yesterday afternoon! Is anyone else having this problem ? I know it is a bad cold and flu season and it is there first year of being in school/ daycare but come on! Is this normal? Should I be worried ? ( more than i already am?) I am calling his Dr, today s to see if he needs to re-fill his atibiotic. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

What can I do next?

I have three young children and have been going through the same thing with them since Christmas! With kids, especially in school, they just seem to pass it back and forth. This is normal and unfortunatley there is not much you can do about these viruses. Just making sure that they are getting fluids and staying hydrated. I get worried sometimes as well, especially since my youngest is only 1 year. He seems to have gotten hit the worst (Bronchitis, Flu, Colds, etc.) :(

Hi J.-

I was just feeling the same way with my first born. She is a daycare baby as well. Only six months and is sick all the time. I am not happy with that at all, however what can you do? When they are in daycare they will be sick. I just try to keep my daughter out of the cold and bundled up. Just like you I call the doc everytime something strange happens. I do know this is hard but it will build their immune systems. My advice, try not to worry and we are all experiencing this. :)

No advice, but also wanted to express my sympathy because we've also been in the same boat! I think since around Thanksgiving, it's been kind of a week on/week off cycle of illness for us. Just when I think we're all better and get out to see people and do things again, bam, we're all sick again. It's been stomach flu, ear infections, horrible coughs (leading to vomiting) stomach flu again, fevers, bad colds, and on and on. Plus I'm pregnant, so throw morning sickness in there too. My kids have been on antibiotics, allergy meds, cough meds, tylenol, it seems like it will never end. Most of my friends have been experiencing the same thing and it SUCKS! Just letting you know I don't think anything is particularly wrong with your children or family - it's been a particularly bad year! Pray for warmer weather!!!

I went through the same thing with my dughter when she was about 2 years old. She spent about 6 months on and off antibiotics. At one pint i took her to the doctor and she had strep throat, pink eye, impetigo, sinus infection, and a double ear infection all at the same time. Her doctor sent us to an immunologist in portland named Dr. Osborne. He was great! He ended up changing the antibiotic regimen. Rather than saying okay take the Omnicef for 10 days , he prescribed Omnicef until she had no symptoms for 15 days in a row. It worked and she didnt get sick again after that. Hope this helps, good luck!

If it is the first time they have been in school and daycare yes this is way more then normal. I went back to work last august full time and put my two boy into daycare. within a week both had constant runny noses and the older one came home with pink eye. The noses never went away and about every other week they had some sort of cold. Then in about november our finacial situation changed and daycare was no longer realistic for us to be paying for so i went to part time. The last weekend before they left day care my little one started throwing up at first i thought it was just something he ate. Then monday i started throwing up monday night it traveled down the family chain and we all got it. then they were done with daycare and after being home with me again for about two or three weeks their chronic runny noses went away the cough i had been giving them antibotics for about three months had gone away and all was good since they have been now they have only been sick twice with slight colds. Its becasuae the kids have such pure immune systems. they are getting in a class room full of other germs and their little bodies just go over board. I was told that the sick all the time would go away after about a year. but with summer break it may take yours a little bit longer. Hang in there we all had a little case of the stomach flu last week and i thought i was going to loose it. i dont deal with throw up well and was freakin out. anyways hope my novel helps!! good luck and you will get thourgh it it will just take some tlc and time.

No advice, but I just wanted to let you know that we are in exactly the same boat. This has been the worst cold and flu season I have ever seen. My husband normally has the immune system of an ox, and even HE has been sick since right before Christmas. Just when we thought we were FINALLY coming out of this spell, all three of my boys just came down with yet another cold! My oldest just started another round of antibiotics because he's developed another ear infection. I'm at my wits end! We're washing our hands so much they are chapped! I'm using Lysol spray and wipes to disinfect all surfaces. And we're STILL getting sick! I can't wait for summer.
