I have an 8 yo daughter who is normal little girl. Two days ago complained of headache and now she has a headache, sore neck and sore throat. Her throat isn't swolen though.
Motrin and Tylenol don't seem to work for a long time. She is on her second day home.
Her appetite is still good. She is a good eater. I am concerned more about the head and sore neck. No vomitting. Her cheeks are rosey and she has a slight fever. We are going to try to get into the Dr today.
Any ideas on what this might be?
Thanks C.

So What Happened?

Thanks to all who responded. She is back to school after 3 days off. Usually by noon she was feeling better but I thought she needed to stay away from other kids just in case. She is still feeling icky in the morning but she took a tylenol and she is on an antibiotic. So now we will see if that helps.

: Editing this response: One of my co-workers was out sick yesterday and jsut called in today. We figured he had strep, but the doctors at the urgent care said the swollen, sore throat he had and the pain was due to a virus that is going around, and it will need to run it's course. Being a grown man, he was given Viccoden and sent home. Still seems a bit much, though. Anyway, with a virus, they just need to let it ride. In your baby's case, I kinda hope she had strep.....antibiotics relieves that fairly quickly as opposed to "letting it ride". Good luck to you both!

This time of year, most likely strep throat. My girls were usually hit pretty hard with this. Sometimes it barely phased them, then other times they were barely moveable. Good luck with this! Poor baby. She will be in my prayers!

We just went through a round of strep throat with my 3 kids. One only complained of a headache, one just of a sore throat, and one just stopped eating. I'd get a culture done, just in case. Strep won't go away on its own. I know it's all over.

It sounds like a viral illness to me. But, I think checking in with the doctor will be a good idea. There is so much junk going around. My son and I have had a stomach bug the last week to week and a half...no vomiting or diarrhea (thank goodness) but just a general blah/nauseated tummy and gassy and bloaty feeling. I am sure it is a bug as he and I both have had it. It has sure hung around long enough!!
Just keep her hydrated...that's the most important thing you can do is push the fluids! Hope she feels better!!!!

Probably nothing serious. Her fever isn't high so that's good. Always good to check with the doctor though. Might just be a virus. My son has complained of a sore neck and headache, no fever though. Let me know what your doctor says.
Take Care.

My son just had basically the same thing. I ended up taking him to urgent care because the fever wouldn't stay down and he turned out to have a sinus/ear infection. I got omnicef
for it and he's back to his old self again. It was more bacterial in his case but it probably started as a cold. It's a good sign that she's eating and drinking well. I'd just hold tight and keep an eye on her. She'll let you know if she's feeling worse!
