Shoe Question

Not a parenting question at all, but I'm hoping enough people read this that someone will have an answer.

Okay. For podiatry reasons that are too boring to enumerate, I really need ergonomic-type shoes, not too narrow, with good arch support. And I'm still clinging to this shred of vanity -- I just can't stand the "old lady" shoes I'm supposed to buy. Can anyone recommend a brand of shoes that might work? I'm more of a maryjane kind of girl than a strappy stiletto kind of girl, so I'm hoping there might bre something out there, but I don't know where to start.

Thanks!

Mira

Look at Merrell shoes. I have problems with my legs/feet, and they are FABULOUS. None of the other brands feel the same to me. I've tried so many brands, and this is the absolute best. I never have aches when I wear them. They are on the pricy side ($80-100 easy), but so worth it. Ecco might work as well, but they are not quite as comfy to me, although they are a bit more expensive than the Merrells (at least the ones I bought).

Sketchers, Clarks, Earth Shoes, Crocs (they make cute but supportive ballet-type flats and some heels I think)
Other than those brands, I would look into getting custom insoles made so you can still wear the cute shoes but help your feet. Just the fact that you pick maryjanes over stilettos is a start in your search for comfort.
Good Luck!

I'm not sure what foot issues you're dealing with, but have you thought of getting custom orthodic insoles made? I have really bad foot issues and
had some made specifically for my feet. I put them in all of my shoes. You can't wear narrow shoes or stilettos with them, but you already said you don't wear those anyway. Maryjanes work with them fine.

Have you tried adding arch supports to shoes you already have? My mom was told she had flat feet. They fitted her with special expensive shoes and she HATED them! Then she tried just adding the arch supports (like from Dr. Scholls) to her regular shoes. She said that was much better!!

I also use arch supports in my shoes. Now I can't stand to not have them!
