Seeking New pediatrician...any Suggestions?

When I had my daughter 7 months ago, I was completely clueless about choosing a DR for her. I basically just chose the one closest to us and one that my insurance covered. I have never been really thrilled with them, so I am considering switching. I am really wanting to find one that is great with kids. I know, they all should be, but the office I go to seems very impersonal to me. I know they see a ton of children, but after 7 months I would think our regular DR we see would at least remember us. Also, the nurses aren't very nice and one actually grabbed my daughter's leg (she was half asleep) when she gave her the shots at the last visit, causing my daughter to freak out. None of them really show much of an interest in babies. Being a new mom, I would like a place where I feel comfortable taking my daughter and one where I can build a relationship, not just be another number. I think they spend about 3 mins total when I am there and anytime I ask a question, they are very abrupt and give me one word answers. Some things that I am looking for are: a staff that is pleasant and enjoys their job, a DR who actually knows who you are and spends more than a min. on you, not into overmedicating, maybe a seperate area for sick children, but more importantly, someone who cares about your child and is excited about watching them grow. I am pretty flexible about the distance, but would prefer to find someone in the northeast area, like westerville, columbus, gahanna etc. I know that may sound corny, but with our experience, I really want to have a good experience if my daughter will be going to them for many years. I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!

So What Happened?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the recommendations. I know I am not crazy because just last night I did an internet search and my DR's office popped up. Another mom wrote a horrible review of their practice, so I know I am not alone. I still welcome all the suggestions, and I will start calling around this week, so keep them coming! :) Thanks again!!

Hi M....hands down, you need to call Gahanna Pediatrics at ###-###-####. Dr's Heinmiller and Kern are the BEST! I've called them at 2 in the morning before and they have never made me feel bad about it, they know my sons, they take the time to talk to me, they explain things in english, not 'doctor talk' and when I have questions relating to anything, they love talking to me about it, giving me info, asking me questions. They're perfect!! And the staff is great, too! Dr Kern is the one we see the most, but we've seen Heinmiller, too, in emergencies. Both are fantastic and great with kids! Good luck, and don't stick with a doctor you don't like!

HI M., I can highly reccomend Dr. Kathleen Costlow in Gahanna. Its a pretty big practice (i think the name is Pediatrics and Adolescent Practioners. I have used her since my daughter was born 19 months ago and also when we first moved here, I had to take one of my charges there as well. She has a great personality, great with children, the staff is very friendly, and they ALL remember who you are, the names of your children, personal info ( like husbands name, jobs, any other info you choose to give). She actually, knew that I was looking for another nanny position and actaully recommended one of her patients to me, who i am thrilled to be working for! Anyway, She is just a great person and is also young enough that she will be practicing when your child turns 18. Anyway, just wanted to throw my thoughts out there for you! Wish you good luck in finding one!

I don't know where you're located, but I love my son's Dr. We hadn't picked one before he was born & had to call them within 2 days of delivery. They were referred by my OB. Mid-Ohio Pediatrics. Their phone is ###-###-####. The address is Copeland near St. Ann's Hospital. I have seen several Dr. & they have all been nice, but his regular ped is Dr. Fulop. She saw us thru his 1st year & helped us alot with when to introduce new foods & help with feeding. My son was not a good eater in the beginning. They took us on immediately with no problem. I know what it's like to have a Dr. that you're not sure about.
Good luck

M.,

Ditch that Doctors office as soon as possible. They sound horrible!!

I have 4 children and we have been going to Pediatrics and Adolescents since before the first one was born. They are located at 1830 Bethel Rd, ###-###-####.

There are six Doctors in the practice. The childrens main Dr is Dr. Carlos, but we have seen every Doctor in the practice, because of illness, and they are all GREAT!! So is the nursing staff. A typical visit is at least 15 minutes, they have no problem answering questions, there is also a nurse line if you want to call in with any questions.

There are a lot of great peds out there. I would start calling around to see who takes your insurance, then set up interviews with the ones you like. The group of Doctors we see had after hour group question and answer sessions for people looking for a ped.

Good Luck!

J.

We go to Riverside Pediatrics (on Olentangy River Rd. close to Bethel). I originally did a review on them and my only complaint was the office staff, but we've been going there for 2 years now and the office staff is now much better. There are several doctors in the practice... we usually see Dr. Barrett. He was recommended to me by EVERYONE that I asked when I was pregnant. We've seen most of the other doctors in the practice as well, we like them all. They are all very personable and laid back. They have evening and weekend hours as well, which we really think is a plus.

Good luck on your pediatrician search. I hope you find the perfect doctor.

Try Ohio Center for Pediatrics on Bradenton Ave in Dublin. ###-###-#### Our favorite is Dr. Mary Beth Cass but, have seen all of the doctors and am very confident/comfortable with all of them. We've been going there for just over 7 years and have never thought of going anywhere else! Good Luck with your search!
