Any suggestions on how to find a good pediatrician or what I should be looking for? I have a referral list from my doctor but I don't know what to do with it?!

Children's hospital is a great way to start. Personally, I go to a family dr. and have been extrememly pleased. His name is Dr. Morris in Columbus, Ohio.
Good luck!

I have been a nurse for 13 years. Dr. Tyler Rogers is awesome in New Albany. He is a very concerned doctor but he is not too hyper about the little things. I think he is great.

....by the way need a cleaning service?

Hi,
Your best bet to find out who your insurance covers. Once you do that, you call up the office and they will either send you info., or you can ask for a one on one interview. If you need any other help, email me privately and I can recommend one that I use that is great.

We just switched to Pediatric Associates on 256 in Pickerington...We love it...We were going to Building Block Pediatrics but didn't like some of their policies. Pediatric Associates came very highly recommended and they were more than helpful when I did the interview which was very refreshing. Best of luck! Their # is ###-###-#### if your interested!

We have been taking our daughter to Dr. Libby Whitaker off Bethel Rd. since she was a newborn (on the recommendation from a good friend). The practice is Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine and they are phenomenal! ###-###-####. No matter which MD you see there, you will feel that you are getting the best care for your child. And no matter how many times I call with worries or questions, the nurses always take time to listen and help and its no problem getting same day appointments.

Hi there, finding a good pediatrician is hard, I found that just by calling different offices that are either given to you by your Dr or in your insurance book and then asking certain questions to the diff pediatrician offices can sometimes help. for instance some offices charge your an extra cost to bring your child in without an apt, like a sick baby visit that wasn't planned so this may be something you don't like so that can be a ? to ask, also if they have an on call dr for after hours, stuff like that! Good luck! My sons 1st pdeiatrician was in Dublin her name was L. Placta, she was great we only changed Dr's becase we moved, their # is ###-###-#### if you want to call them, I loved their office and she was a great pediatrician.

Well, I asked friends with children when I was looking for my pediatrician. I asked them what they liked about their doctor and what they didn't. I was lucky enough to find one that several of my co-workers were using the same pediatrician (for many years). I called to set up an interview with the pediatrician and found out he was not taking new patients, but he had a new doctor in his practice that was taking new patients (a women). I was happy to have a woman, so I set up an interview and really liked her and the nurses and staff in the office. I think it's important that you like not only the doctor, but also the nurses and staff. And...your friends will steer you to their pediatricians...listen to them and ask them a lot of questions.

If you are interested, my pediatrician (I have been going to her for almost 11 years) is Dr. Virginia DeVertieul and her number is ###-###-####. Her office is in Gahanna. My kids love her, they call her Dr. D. I really like her too...she is so laid back. And she's a mom too!...which means a lot to me.

Good luck on your search!
T.

First call them and ask if they are accepting new patients and if they take your insurance and then if they do you need to arrange an appointment to interview them. When we had our first baby, some offices said they wouldn't see us until the baby was born. They were off the list right away. Some weren't accepting new patients. If you aren't sure what to ask at the appointment, look in some new parenting books. There will be plenty of good suggestions.

well first decide whether or not you want your new pediatrician to come to the hospital when you baby is born to check him out before he is discharged (not a big deal, personal preference). Then just call and see if you can arrange for a prenatal visit and go and ask some questions. What is important to you -- location? a doc who encourages breastfeeding? one whome you can get in easily with a sick kid? large or small practice, etc etc... Usually the booklets for the hositals have some guidelines, but it is totally a gut feeling and ofcourse the ohter little things. I found the one I wanted (when I first moved here) and just recently decided he is just too far away... Feel free to ask more, I "shopped around" looking for a doc.

The first step I agree is to find out who your insurance will cover, then most Doctor offices have Meet and Greets. I have four little ones and I take them to Rainbow Peds in New Albany. I love them!!Dr. Tyler is awesome he listens to your concerns and has young children himself.
One thing I think is most important is that you are comfortable with the doctor. There is nothing worse than having a Doctor talk at you about your children, you want a doctor to talk with you. I would also look for a support staff that you can call and talk to a nurse to ease your worries of first time mommy hood. Good Luck...
the number for Rainbow Peds to cut down on your research is ###-###-####.
