Hello Moms! I'm researching developmental and enrichments programs for children ages 6 months to 8 years. I'm particularly interested in knowing which programs (for example, classes, after-school programs, recreational tools, playgroups, entertainment, supplemental education) you found useful and beneficial to your child/children. Of all the programs that your child has participated in, which ones did he/she enjoy the most...the least? Of the programs enjoyed the most, what was the basic structure (including duration, number of kids per class, educators per class, time of day, breakdown of girls/boys, materials used, number of classes in series)? Any input you can provide would be great!! Thanks!! :-)

What can I do next?

My daughter has been going to Music Together classes since she was about 6 months old. I believe she developed more than music appreciation in those classes. Most of the classes I've been to have mixed ages so she learns from the older kids and interacts with them. My child was a little late in crawling and walking etc but she seemed to get more motivated when she saw all the other kids moving around in the class. It's a great way to bond with your child and have some fun too. I've been to one other music class but I found this one the most organized and worth the price.

Each class has one teacher but each child has at least one parent/caretaker with them. It's a 45mins class weekly. For the cost, we got 2 cds, a book and 10 lessons.

swimming! my daughter swims and i know she is so much safer because of it. we've done other classes such as gymnastics and dance, however, i only do one class at a time and right now we're taking a break. they have their whole adults lives to be overscheduled and kids get so much from undirected play. when my daughter picks up a stick and tells me it's a snake or pretends to be kitty for 30 mins or 'reads' to her toy frog she is developing important skills and creativity that she cannot learn in a class.

I've taken my 11-month old daughter to Gymboree Play & Music located in Bethesda since she was about 9 weeks old. We both enjoy it. Classes last 45-min sessions. I'm considering looking into Kidville, which will be opening up its doors this month in Rockville.

Dear Amy,
I do LOVE gymboree but they end at age 5. There is another place called My Gym which has locations all over. They have classes for newborns to age 13 yrs old. www.mygym.com
Good Luck,
Pammy
