Seeking Childproofing Advice

My 8 month old daughter has 4 teeth and of course wants to put everything in her mouth.Unfortunately when standing in her crib she will hold on to the wooden rails and start gnawing on them.We have tried distracting her with other toys especially teething ones and have tried to calmly tell her "no biting". Her response is laughter and no matter what approach we take she resorts back to rubbing her teeth on the wood.

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. I found on a website a plastic cover for crib rails so they cannot destroy the wood or hurt themselves but it is out of stock. Can anyone recommend anything else or anything they have liked in terms of table edge guards as we are about to child proof everything.Thank you.

What can I do next?

We had the same problem. I originally bought plastic rail guards but my son was able to get them off and throw them on the floor. Then I bought Gummi Rail (at BRU), it like a long adhesive tape that stays on the railing and it worked like a charm! It supposedly can be removed but just left it since it covers all the bite marks LOL
Hope that helps!

Hi H.-
BabiesRUs have the protective plastic for the railing of the crib. You can also order it online and have it mailed to you. The size is pretty standard.
Hope this helps-

Why don't you get her a wooden teething ring since she seems to like the feel of it. There are some that are finished with natural oils instead of stain so they are safe to chew.

There are a lot of different kinds of crib rail guards out there. You can go to babies rus or Ikea and they always have them in stores.Make sure you follow the directions and install the guards when baby does not see it.

can you only purchase this online? Seeing that you are interested in other products I found "BYE BYE BABY" to have practically everything I needed. See if there is one near you. If not, any other store should have one. Try target, kmart, walmart...places like that. Good Luck!!!

Hi!

My son is now 14 1/2 months but he did the same thing when he was your little girl's age. He doesn't do it anymore...I don't think it lasted more than 2-3 weeks...the only thing I have seen is the same guards (www.onestepahead.com), but I have to say, by the time I got around to buying one he had stopped. So I was really worried at first and then it was over...hopefully the same will happen with you...though he sometimes now bites me when he's excited and when I say no he laughs, too! Am not sure what I will do about this new trend!! Good luck.
