I am looking to color my hair and am trying to save money by not going to the salon. Is there a hair coloring brand or kit that anyone would recommend. I have pretty dry hair and have a fear of damaging it. I'm desperate for help. Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok so I took the advice and went to Sally's the lady there was super nice and was pretty knowledgable about the products. I ended up coloring my hair this evening and it turned out great. I did an Ion Intensive Condition and bought another to do in about a week. I am overall very happy with my results I would have never thought to go to Sally's So thanks for the great idea!

I got tired of using box kits and went to Sally's Beauty Supply and started using their color. The products are well priced and the salespeople are super helpful! I've had fabulous results and have never messed up a coloring (knock on wood!!). They will tell you how to mix everything (it's easy) and make sure you get a good color applicator and a box of rubber gloves. Good luck!

I am a hairstylist and am very wary of home coloring kits. However, the Sally's recommendations are good. Feria I hear is good as long as you have virgin hair, meaning you have no previous color or perm. ( or if you have previous color it is very old and faded and could be cut off if needed to).

Also, since you have dry hair, I suggest doing a deep conditioning treatment 3 days before you color it. (You can buy one at Sally's as well). Dry hair will appear spotty/splothcy with the color. And if you deep condition the hair too soon to coloring it, the color will not stay.

A good tip, is once you apply color to your roots, lightly (not enough to dampem) spritz the rest of your hair with a water bottle. It will make the applicaation of the color on your hair saturate better resulting in a prettier color and coverage.

I ususally go to Sally's Beauty Supply to get my hair coloring stuff. You have to buy everything seperate (the color, the developer, the gloves, mixing bottle and conditioner) but it doesn't cost any more than the kits in the store - especially if you have a lot of hair and need 2 like me. Also when you get it there, the women who work in there know about hair coloring and help you choose what is best for you hair and what you are trying to achieve. When I use to buy the boxes in the stores, there were a couple of times I had ended up with bad colors and had to redo my hair. That is when I discovered the women at Sally's because they helped me choose what I needed to fix it.

Good Luck
