OK, the youngest is in pre-school and loving it! Yea! Now I've got to pay for this wonderful time that is mine alone. Yessiree - I'm ready to hit the workforce - and...what...OH, bad timing huh?

My old boss would have me back - THAT'S good - but she is 40 minutes away - withOUT traffic. Not my first choice now that the wee ones are depending on me and we live in earthquake country.

So what about some of those stay at home mom jobs where you make 'stuff'?
What experience do any of you have with SAHM work.
What sites are really worth checking out or are duds or I fear - "lose" your work and conveniently don't pay you...??

Actually I am amazing at beadwork and just about anything fine motor skill oriented like that - painting too. I think it would be a snap to have a piece(es) that I only need to duplicate (over and over again!).

I do prefer to work with fancy materials, real silver, semi-precious stones, etc., etc. I am not sure I would love working with plastic beads...
I have a sewing machine too!
Well any ideas how to make money at home - even the simplest thing would be great. Making $1000 a month would be amazing right now!!!

There aren't legitimate at-home assembly jobs. Those are prime scams. Be very, very careful. The work you described, though, could be done as a business, like through Etsy.com, but you'll need to have professional drive, business sense and creativity.

To make $1,000 a month, you'll most likely need a professional job from home and those tend to be either consulting work or working from home after you've proven yourself at a company for a while. Most likely, you'd need childcare, too.

I've worked from home for nine years now as a freelance writer and love it, but it's not the "dream" everyone makes it out to be. It's still hard work and requires a lot of initiative and commitment. Check out the site www.wahm.com for more realities about working from home.

Stay away from these "work from home" jobs. They are all scams. There are legitamate jobs out there-mostly in customer service or data entry. You should start your own business with your jewelry making. Sell either online at Etsy or something similiar or direct to boutiques.

good luck with your search, as long as you are willing to work and motivated to be your own boss you can be very successful from home, it always amazes me when people warn others about work at home opportunities, I have been earning wonderful income for 6 years now working at home, I was a teacher for 10 years then decided to stay home with my own children, I earn more working part time from home than I ever did teaching and I have true time flexibility to put my family first, message me if you would like some information

BEWARE of all the "at home opportunities" you will receive from this post.

If you have a true art, figure out how to market it vs signing up with some MLM, investing, selling and recruiting for them..NOT YOU.

I am not familiar with EBAY and etsy which are mentioned but could be a good outlet to sell your goods if you are very familiar with costs involved.

My area has a couple of craft areas where people actually set up a little consignment shop and sell their wares. I bought many bows for my daughter's hair when she was little.

Look at all options.! Good luck

This may not be what you are looking for, but court reporters make really good money. They set their own hours, work for courts, lawyers, mediators etc., type up the conversation then make a formal transcript and charge upwards of $500 or more per copy. You might need to find a class, but within a few months you could probably be certified and definitely make $1000 or more and only work a few days a month (or more) out of the house and the rest is done at home. Good luck.

Geez! Yes, Moms...there are scams out there & but MLMs are not scary pyramid schemes that you need to "BEWARE" of! It may not be the right fit for you L., but if you are interested finding a valid business opportunity you should look at www.dsa.org before signing up with any company. MLM is multi level marketing & it's a brilliant way of doing business.

The mom who said working at home is not the "dream" everyone makes it out to be is working very hard for the money she's earning. MLMs are for people who want to build a network of consumers and use time leveraging to grow that income - it's not recruiting for someone else - it's recruiting for your own team, investing time in helping other people build an income & then you get compensated for investing that time - makes more sense than a traditional job where you are paid to train people but as soon as the company is through with you, they stop paying you but keep profiting from your work.

Again, it's not for everyone because you do have to get over any fears you have, educate people about the products your company sells & find people that WANT this type of work (not twist their arms & force them!). There are plenty of people that have done the work, built networks & are living the "dream" - it IS possible! For example: http://www.arbonne.com/opportunity.asp
Not sure this is for you but I want you to have the correct info. Hope you find what you are looking for... M.

Leslie, 2 months ago, when my youngest was 3 months, I started looking to go back to work so that I could contribute to our dwindling bank account. ;) After researching several 'work at home' opportunities, I started with a company that not only has a great compinsation plan, but I also am able to save money by doing my shopping with them and I have created a safer environment for my children and my family. While I am not creative, as you are, this company allows me to earn an income while caring for my two young children and home. So I think that you wold be able to earn an income while getting your own business started as well. You would also be working with a team of people who support mothers who work at home in all their endevours so I think you would grow a great network in order to market your homemade goods! Please msg me for info, or go to my ____@____.com/themillers. Hope this is able to help you!

I use to make $1000 a month selling my handmade jewlery on etsy here http://www.jeweldambrosia.etsy.com ... but business is crazy slow for a lot of people and my sales are few and far between.

You can certainly make pieces and wholesale and consign them out to local boutiques, but that is another business, here is a great article on how to do that though:

If you don't mind sales and driving around your area, then give Juice in the City a try. You basically go to your local shops (bakeries, salons, little gym...) and such and offer them advertising in exchange for coupon deals for the website readers. I was going to do it, but decided it would be too difficult since my kids are still home with me. Info here:

Since you are crafty and good with people, you would be a good candidate for balloons. You go in restaurants (like Olive Garden) and make balloons... my sister does it about 3 nights a week and averages over $100 a night. I just started and am learning the balloons to go to my fist gig and complete my training. Though I don't know how many events are during the day.

Anyways, here is the website for the info, and it is legit. You do have to buy your own kit, since you are considered an independent contractor, but it's only about $50 with tax, and it comes with the apron, balloon pumps, training dvds and balloons.
