So my husband and I are known for making the easy, impossible and for our son's second birthday theme, we picked Busytown. My son loves the books, so we thought, great, here is an original idea. However, we can not find anything with the theme. Please moms, any help or suggestions that you can think of would be greatly appreicated.

What can I do next?

I just found this! It's way too late, but if you ever find yourself wanting something like this again, I found a small selction on eBay. People make home businesses out of custom invitations, etc. for things the big places don't carry...

You might try the website birthdayexpress.com.
They have a lot of b-day items that you cannot find in stores and the prices are very comparable to what you would get in a store.

Well you could have gummy worms -- "Lowly worm" treats
Bananas Gorrilla -- something with Bananas

I love Busytown too, and being animals, that could be a jumping off point...

If you have a scanner, scan the books, and enlarge some characters to print out. Cut out and place around...

But yout son is only going to be 2 so really going overboard on a theme is extra work for you.... the guests might appreciate it more than the Guest of Honor!! But I think as long as you make it colorful (balloons, streamers, diff. color plates) and of course have a cake, then your little guy will be happy!

Good luck! L. :)

ps. When I was young I had a Busytown book that you actually cut out with the characters and the town, cars, etc. Maybe if you got this book, you could cut out the characters and stick some of them on the cake and maybe cupcakes, etc.

J.,

We love Richard Scarry too and in fact, I can see my car from where I'm sitting and in the passenger window - where my son sits - we've taped up a picture of The Peanut Car.

The only thing that comes to mind for a birthday is to scan the book and pick out your son's favorite pictures or characters and print them out and hang them up. Maybe a "pin the tail on Goldbug" ... wait, he doesn't have a tail.

Oh dear, you are in a pickle.

I've given this other suggestion before, and I'll give it again because it went over so well at my daughter's party. Pumpkin bowling. Buy a six pack of 1 liter water bottles and cover them with Richard Scarry pictures. Buy a pumpkin, a small melon, or any weirdly round shaped fruit and you've got it. My daughter and her friends loved it.

Good luck. Let me know what you decide, I might want to steal some ideas for MY son's 2nd birthday!

You can have cakes made from photos, so take a picture of the one you want on his cake(from one of his books), and take it in. If there are any toys, buy one or two to go on top of the cake, if not, find something similar, or have the store do what they can with it.

When my son was younger he wanted a power rangers party, so I drew a power ranger on a poster board and we played our own version of "pin the tail", using belt buckles for the power ranger that I drew and cut out. You could do something similar with the Busytown theme. If not a game (since he is so young), then maybe draw the characters and cut them out and tape them up on the walls or hang from an overhead light fixture over the table (like a mobile).

No one is going to care if every little thing matches exactly. Go with balloons in the colors of Busytown and wrapping paper in stripes, etc with those same colors.

Hi J..
I ran into the same thing when trying to decorate for my daughter's 2nd Little Einstein birthday party. I was able to find the plates and things, but no decorations. If you know anyone artistic, have them draw the characters or something along those lines. I'm not familiar with Busytown, but I know Disney website was helpful for me. I just watercolor painted 4 posters ad hung them up. And I made a cake a character as well. Good luck. I hope you're able to make his birthday all that you want!

You might have to expand on "BUSYTOWN" and pick different things/activities that might be IN a busy town. That would make things MUCH easier. Thank GOD for children who love books!!! I used to work at a children's bookstore & LOVED it!
