Reassurance on Sleep

I know this is silly but I'm worried on how much Ellie is sleeping! I know, I know, she's only 5 days old but I guess I don't remember Emme sleeping this much! Can someone offer some reassurance that this is normal? She's up MAX 4-5 hours a day. Max.

What can I do next?

Every baby is different on sleeping when a newborn. Some sleep just about all the time and others are awake more those first few weeks. I doubt you have anything to worry about at this early age but if you are in doubt ask your pediatrician.

I think what is hard is to remember that they are two totally different people and have different habits. My kids were totally opposite when they were born and that threw me for a loop because I thought I had the whole parenting thing down. Well then my 2nd son came along and did everything my 1st son did not. I hope this is helpful

Don't worry! For about the first 2-3 weeks of my new one's life, he only woke up to eat. We began calling him names based on his awake status: "Ethan one-eye" "Ethan-two-eyes." As I'm sure you know with your 2 yr old, you're going to need all the rest you can get, so relish this time when baby's demanding so little of your time... :)

Britteny, Just look at it this way, about a week ago she was in a very dark place sleeping most of the time. It takes time to adjust!!

She's fine. M.

Totally normal. Let her sleep and do the same when possible. It won't be long before you'll be asking yourself "what ever happened to the days when this child used to sleep??" :)

B.,
Lots of sleep is normal in a newborn, more importantly is she waking up enough to eat and grow? How is she eating? How many wet and poopy diapers is she having a day? If she is breastfeeding, she should eat 10-12 times a day, and formula feeding is easy to track.

My son slept all the time. I would have to wake him up to feed him every 3 hours but it would be sleep...eat...sleep...eat...
