hey everyone,

i just put in some new berber carpeting in my basement, only to find that my 2 year old spread vaseline all over herself and it one night. does anyone know a good way to get it out? i've tried a little resolve and shout but it still leaves a oily looking stain. any help would be much appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

hey everyone,

i tried the dawn dishwashing detergent last night and it seems to have worked perfectly. i can still notice a very small amount of residual stain in one area but i don't think anyone but me would see it. thanks so much for all your suggestions! i really appreciate it.

Make haste to hire a professional! My son smeared A&D ointment all over my cream colored sofa and even the professional had trouble getting it out. He had to come out twice. Anything you put on it now might hinder the attempts of a professional...that was my experience. Hope that helps!

Be careful using soap because dirt will stick to the residue. Maybe try laying down a thick towel and ironing so the grease will melt and absorb into the towel?
Renting a steamer is MUCH cheaper than getting a pro too, if you must go that route. Just be sure to rinse VERY well.

Have you tried goof off? A friend of mine said it worked with shoe polish, so it might work with this too. Try calling a carpet cleaner or a berber manufacturer. Good Luck!

I would contact the vaseline company and ask them. We've had to do that with the permanent marker company and they were a big help. Good luck.

You need to cut the grease out what does the job is Dawn the dish soap. It removes the greasey look and cleans at the same time. You probably have to do it a couple of times but it works.

You should try a solvent based carpet spot remover. Vaseline is petroleum based and you need a grease cutting agent to remove the spot. Try a janitorial or carpet store. Janco in Aurora sells the stuff that I use.

Hi I.,
Have you tried Oxy Clean, it works on just about anything. Dawn dishwashing liquid might work also, but use just a drop, you don't want your carpet to have a soap residue.

Hope one of these works for you.
