Random: Could You (Or Would You) Go to the Store...?

Updated on June 20, 2013

We need milk. And bread. But I'm not going to the store to pick it up. Bringing me to my question. Would you run to the store just as you are presently?

I'm wearing a comfy green shirt with a small bleach stain and calf length yoga pants. I haven't shaved my legs in several days. I am braless. No, I will not be going to the store dressed as I am. I would have to put on long pants (or shave), put on a bra and change my shirt. But at least I wouldn't have to brush my hair. That part is presentable.

Husband can handle it this time.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I should not go out in public without a bra. I have massive boobs....like cleavage in a turtleneck big. Turns out that I went to the store this morning wearing jeans, another comfy t-shirt and a bra.

I can safely say I do not have self esteem issues I just don't like walking around in public with sasquatch legs.

I remember my daughter got sick and I ran to the store at 3 am in my pajamas, my hair a mess, and flip flops in winter. I ran into some 20 somethings who were coming back from partying. They openly talked about how bad I looked, but I got the last laugh. What they don't know is I was them and one day they will be me. If I need to go to the store, I will go regardless of what I'm wearing.

I already took off my bra for the day. I am not going out until i have it on again tomorrow.

The good news is my husband or daughter could go if we really needed something,

I would put on a bra only because I'm 46, and well, the girls are friends with my knees. So yeah, but that would be all I would do. Who cares about the rest? When I look good...I look DAMN good...so I think that makes up for my no-bra, and hairy leg days (which is basically daily...lol).

I saw the funniest picture on the internet yesterday! It said,

Target:
I guess I will go shower and get ready.

Walmart:
Yeah...I could probably just go like this.

Made me chuckle!! I actually just got back from the store and I'm presentable. Shorts, tee, hair up, but nothing stanky. My bra is still on. I can go all day and not notice what people are wearing. You'd have to be "people of walmart" bad for me to notice you!! People notice us, far less then we think.

I must always wear a bra or I will trip over my boobs.
But I have been known to go in some pretty "comfy" clothes to the store.
(fair warning though...you ALWAYS run into someone you know when you look a hot mess!)

I love this post!

Most of the time, I will do my best to look presentable when I go run errands. Those are the days that I never run into anyone I know.

The times when I haven't showered, hair up and no makeup? Of course, that is when I run into EVERYONE I know! :)

Bug: the Target/Walmart comparison is too funny!

I think for the most part....nobody really cares.

Unless you're going out looking like someone from "People of Walmart," nobody is going to notice or care if you've shaved your legs or not. And they probably won't notice the bleach stain.

But the boobs....people usually notice pendulous, unrestrained boobs.

Put on a baseball cap so no one recognizes you. LOL
Put on a hoodie jacket over your comfy green shirt so no one sees you braless or your bleach stain.
It is nighttime, so maybe no one will look at your unshaven legs.
Then, go to the store.
I've done that.
But then, I went to a store in which they are not familiar with me.
LOL
So, so what how I look.
And besides, there are many other people running to the store, dressed way worse than that.
And I've seen MEN run to the store, dressed worse than you are! LOL

Or just tell your Hubby to run to the store.

No, I have my comfy pj bottoms on, but a simple white t-shirt which is ok (not the underwear kind like Hanes :)

My hair is in a pony, but that's ok.

If I went in your current status, I'd FOR SURE run into someone I know or am acquainted with and would be horrified. Right or wrong, that's what I always think when I leave "if I ran into my daughters friends mom, would I feel ok??'

I only go to the store if I have my hair done and make up perfect. Pearls, high heels, business suit. That way, I never have to go.

Oh hell no!!! lol!!

I never go out unless I am wearing makeup and have on a half-decent t-shirt and jeans (even if they do have a few holes). Sometimes I'll just clip my hair but it's still pretty presentable looking.

We live in a small town and I certainly do not want to be caught looking terrible by anyone I know!!

I don't have a problem with hopping up and going out (if it's during the day, with kids I've learned to be ready at the drop of a hat) but if my family needs something they know better than to wait till late in the day to ask me; I hate running errands as it is and I'm certainly not going out once I get in my comfy clothes (or pjs) and take off my makeup!!

Glad to see I'm not totally alone in this!! lol!!

An hour ago, I hadn't showered in 4 days, brushed my teeth in two and was wearing a nighttime nursing bra under a maternity sundress (I have an 11 day old, a 2 year old, a 4 year old, a hubby who travels for work and my home daycare is still operating while I'm on maternity leave, so the house has to stay presentable). I have now showered, brushed, shaved, moisturized dressed in (mostly) non-maternity clothes and have exhausted my energy, so my errands will wait.

Do we need it for breakfast in the AM? Will not having it mean that my kids go without a meal in the morning? If I have frozen waffles, yogurt, bagels, or something else for them to eat? Nope. Wouldn't go. If however, I'm out of everything else and it means that my child with go without? I would throw my hair back in a pony tail and go to the local 7/11.

I wouldn't care about my unshaved legs - people aren't going to get that close to me to see.

I wouldn't care - yes - I realize you can only make one first impression - but really? My kids are my priority. So yeppers! Out the door I would go!

I would throw on a bra. But everything else is fine for the corner store. When he was single, my husband once ran out to the corner store late at night for a soda or something. He didn't realize until he was at the counter paying that he was wearing his boxers and had forgotten to throw on a pair of shorts!! If it's just a corner store, they see everything. Right now I'm wearing padded bike shorts under a pair of running capris (because no one needs to see me stuffed into a pair of bike shorts), a sports bra and a hazmat yellow t-shirt. Hair is a mess, I'm sweaty from my ride, and need to shave my legs. I would totally run to the corner store right now!

If you need the items, you go get them. You put the bra on and go. Who cares if your legs aren't shaved? Why would they be looking at them that closely to say that they have stubble?

Get what you need and get back home. Errand done and over.

It's not like you are on a date with hubby or lunch with friends. It's just everyday life and you need your staples.

the other S.

PS I have run out the house with slippers and undone hair to pick up an item at the local store and back home. Didn't care who saw me.

If I had to "doll up" every time I had to go to the store, I guess I wouldn't get there - 90 minutes to look "pretty" for a 5 minute stop.

To go anywhere, I'd have a bra on.
The rest.. I would go to the corner store. I would even go to the nearest grocery store (I rarely go there and won't see anyone I know). But to go to where I would normally go to buy milk/bread, I would probably have to throw on a hat. Because if I have on yoga pants and a bleach stained shirt, I probably also have no make-up on and my hair hasn't been "done" all day. Regardless, a bra would be in order. EVERY time.

I've even walked to the quik trip in a long flannel night gown. It was about 3 houses away and the middle of the night. I didn't see one person. So no, I think if you need to go to the store and have to do all that to feel presentable to strangers then you might have some self esteem issues.

You don't have to shave your legs and dress up to go to the store for bread and milk. Putting on a bra is okay I guess, I wouldn't though.

I probably would not...I would at least put on full length yoga pants and throw a zip up jacket on. Even in this weather.

I have no qualms going to the store with no makeup, hair in a bun, in workout clothes or no bra as long as I have a zip up jacket on. In my defense...I am really small breasted so ya can't tell no bra on if I have a light jacket on. I look fine with no makeup on. I also happen to live in a state that was voted 2nd least fashionably dressed, it is not really a faux pas to go out in workout clothes here. And lastly, I do my workout in the afternoon. I am not getting all gussied up twice in a day. So...yeah. But leg stubble, no bra, bleach shirt might add up to be one too many for me, so thank goodness for hsubands! :)

When I was in my late 20's ...until I was about 30 something...I always looked good when I went to the store. It didn't take much effort then...

Now, I have a long tan jacket that goes down to my ankles. I use it when I run to the store---without make-up ! I keep my sunglasses on, too.

In mid-summer, I can wear the sunglasses in the store until 9pm. The sun is still out !!

I dress up when I have to...but not to go to a grocery store.

Let hubby pick up the food !

Nope! I have to get showered and dressed before I will go out the door. Right now I have done none of that because I've been cleaning and taking care of stuff around the house all day and it didn't make since to do it before now and I didn't have time. Really should go do that right now instead of answering questions here LOL.
I don't wear makeup or anything but I at least like to be showered and in a clean shirt and pants and at least put some earrings on, comb my hair out and pin it out of my face, don't care if it's still wet though.

Yeah, I would go wearing what you describe BUT the items would have to be pretty darn important as the closest store is 15 minutes away!!! I don't ever just run to the store for 1 or 2 items.
