Questions About Teething

I'm sure that there are other questions on her regarding teething but I couldn't find them. It's as though someone flipped a switch with my daughter. Her front two teeth have broken through (her first) and she's very irratible, not her sweet calm self. We've tried all the "book" methods. The only thing I couldn't find is how long it normally takes for the tooth to fully come in. Any other homeopathic suggestions (we've tried cold baby food, teething beeds, the fridge toys, an apple)? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

Hi D.,

I mamasourced about this a while back. A few people recommended Hyland's Teething Tablets (get them at Target). It may be me and my wishes of our 18 month to be pain free, but these seem to be a wonder tablet. They say their teeth start to hurt when they are in bed and have nothing else to keep them busy and they notice the pain. We use these sparingly and they seem to put her right to sleep. I do not use them throughout the day as they say you can on the bottle, just at night.

Good luck :D

I am sure there are things I am forgetting but...here goes...

Freeze washclothes and let her chew on those.
Frozen Waffle sticks (watch carefully)
Tube Popsicles
MOTRIN!
Massage her gums if she will let you.
Mine always wanted to just be held during this time and I swear it will all be over soon!

I've heard that the worst of it has passed when the tooth breaks through the gums. My son seemed to get 4 teeth at a time, and by his first birthday he had 16 teeth already. ugh!

Our tried and true method... Tylenol.

I agree about the Hyland's teething tablets. They provide immediate relief and are totally homeopathetic. They do not dry out the sockets like OraGel or Anbesol products (once they painkiller wears off, it actually hurts worse). All of my friends swear by them.

Are there other changes in her foods, sleeping patterns, naptimes, etc? I would look to other causes by trying to pinpoint when the irritability is absent, starts and is at its worse. Good luck.
