I regularly see updates from friends that they read a particular article on yahoo and few other websites. I want to know how does facebook show these updates? Does it always ask for permission about posting an update on a article we read? Thanks :)

What can I do next?

You can go into the Apps setting of FB and update which apps you have authorized to post as you on FB. I NEVER access apps via FB, because I don't want to have to go through all the BS of granting/revoking permission, and once upon a time an app I had approved changed company names, and then I couldn't get rid of it on FB and it kept spamming M. and had all my personal information that I had put in FB.

I learned my lesson--I never click links that my friends post if they are apps. I put very minimal personal info in, and read the Terms of Service for EVERYTHING pertaining to FB.

I know what you're talking about & when you click on those articles, you have to approve Yahoo's app to be run on your FB. So, Yahoo's app is tracking what people are reading & posting it on FB.

I'm on it all the time. However, I NEVER click on ANYTHING, no games, no links, no nothin. I accidently did once and it said in accepting I was allowing "them" to post on "my behalf" and a bunch of other crazy things and I was like, uh hell no. So I dont do any of that. Which is probably why I'm not upgraded to the new timeline everyone hates. My time may be coming, but I clearly am laying low enough that they aren't after M.! LOL! Good luck!

I 'believe' you have to click on one of those things that gives them permission to 'post on your behalf'. I never click on those and have never had anything pop up on my wall. I spoke to a friend about this recently and we decided we would be sure to let the other person know if we ever saw anything posted 'by them'! I sometimes wonder if people are aware tho'...kinda makes you pause when you get something saying your MIL read something about initiating more sex (not like I really care or am offended...like I said...just makes you pause ;)).

Pretty sure its just like how your husband did it-you click on an article on FB. Say if you clicked one that your friend showed that she read...this will then show that you read it too.

Go to your privacy settings. There are several different headings. Every so often I go through every single setting and make sure I haven't accidentally allowed anything. You also have to be careful because more and more websites allow you to log on using your Facebook account. Never use that. It allows the site to track your movements.

At one point they clicked on something on facebook about it, and approved the app for yahoo news to access their profile, so now when they read an article about anything it pops up on their feed. If you're worried, go through your settings and see what you've allowed.

Privacy Settings upper right corner click arrow next to HOME tab. Drop down list, Privacy Settings, then scroll down, and pick Adds, Apps, and Websites. Click Edit Settings. Its in the Apps you use. Most likely Yahoo, or news sites. You click on X Remove all Spammy Apps. There will bring up a check list of everything you ever allowed. You can individually turn them off. Also there are other settings you may or may not want to turn on and off. BE SURE TO READ then carefully. Then click away!

I'm glad you asked this question, this is one of the things I hate about fb. I don't get it and it is increasingly seeming like an invasion of privacy. A very good friend of mine read an article that posted on fb that I knew would be embarrassing to her (about decreasing sex drive) so I called her immediately so she could delete it and she couldn't even see it on her wall to delete.

Yes, when you go to the page the very first time it requests permission and you have to click it to get to the article.
