We have a litter of Golden Retriever Puppies..they are 3 weeks old now and are really starting to poop a lot more...mommy dog is not able to completely keep up with them so we are changing her bedding made of old blankets and beach towels at least 3 times a day...does anyone have any safe more practical bedding suggestions...it also needs to provide some warmth since they are still young...I am doing laundry non stop..HELP!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advise...I settled for newspaper shreddings and a plastic liner but am going to get some absorbent pads used in hospitals...those seem pretty hearty..

I would say newspaper also. You want to keep the area clean so they don't get sick. I would reccommend newspaper under your entire pen and then place a blanket or two down in one area of the pen. Dogs do not like to soil their sleeping quarters so hopefully soon they will learn to go only on the newspaper. Also, for warmth I used to use a stuffed animal that had a zipper opening for a hot water bottle. I used it for my Yorkie when she was a puppy. It worked like a charm and because it was a stuffed animal I think she was more comfortable with it. I do not recall where I got it, but I will look into that. The water bottle got destroyed when I got my Irish Setter puppy and she chewed through it :(

Hi, they sell puppy pads at most pet supply stores and they are disposable so you can lay them over the blankets to catch the pee & poop!

The disposibles are a good idea. However if you don't want to go down that route, you can purchess bed pads at any medical supply store. They are a cloth material with a plastic like bottom. This way you can wash them, they're pretty durable. There is a medical supply store across the street from UMC, right by the Del Taco.
