I am losing my job in May so come next school year we can't send our now 4 year old boy to the same preschool. I was looking into Wasatch Presbyterian Preschool but they are almost $200/mo. Are there any in-home preschools downtown, Sugarhouse, Foothill, Avenues, UofU area that you know of? Or do you have any suggestions about other preschools that aren't so expensive? Please help!

I had my son go to the Salt Lake School District Preschool. It is only $75 a month and it was great. I also looked at Wasatch and thought it was to much. The teachers were great and they had plenty of help for the amount of kids. My son loved the kids. The salt lake school district also has a summer program that is like $50 or less for a 4 weeks that is a kinergarten readiness program and it was a lot of fun too. If you go to the Salt School District Website it will tell you when to register.

Go to the Salt Lake City School District offices (they're on 400 E and 100 S I think) and as for the preschool offices. They hold their teachers to high standards (and most of them are Title I subsidised, meaning they have to show that their teachers are highly qualified). The cost is on a sliding scale based on your income, but I think it tops off around $100 a month. And the preschool is run in the neighborhood schools, so if your local school participates it is close to home and he'll be used to the school when he goes to kindergarten. (If he's 5 before Sep 1, he could actually go to kindergarten this next school year, but if he's got a late birthday its ok if you want him to wait one more year.)

I 2nd the request to check the slc school district. I know Beacon Heights Elem has a preschool program for age 4, and I presume there are others. I would suspect they are fairly reasonably priced. You can check online.

My DS goes has been going to an in-home provider at about 17th east and Garfield (1800 So) on and off (my work schedule fluctuates). She does infants too, but has a preschool program, including holiday programs (singing, Santa, etc.), and is just an awesome person. They do art projects and letters and numbers, etc. She is very reasonably priced. I know she does full and part time. Her name is Cheryl Hill. You should be able to find her in either the phone book or online (her husband is Greg). She usually has openings in the fall when school starts.

You could try looking into your local high school. We send my little boy to the preschool at a high school near our home and he loves it. The cost was a lot cheaper than other schools, and they have one on one time with the students. It isn't every day though, but it is just a thought.

Hey J.,
I actually have an in-home preschool out of my home in South Jordan "Children's Garden Preschool". I charge $85 a month for 2.5 hours 3 days a week. I have an ad on Craigslist and KSL if you want to know more information. I may be too far away for you, but both these websites are a great way to find a preschool for your litle one, good luck!
