I am 24 wks pregnant, and for about couple of days I've had dull headaches, mostly on the right side, in the eye area, pressure under my eyes and sometimes very itchy and watery eyes and itchy nostrils. Ocassionally, I get itchy on my face and if I scratch I get few tiny bumps.Could it be allergies? Sinus infection? Any advice on how to relieve it? Thanks a lot.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I assume it's a combination of allergies and sinus issues, as I had both in the past. It's just annoying and they both seem worse now in pregnancy. Since it's winter, I assumed that allergies won't bother me, but as we have had temperature in the mid-60's in the last several days, I guess this may have reactivated my old allergies issues. Thanks everybody for your insights and advices!

Benadryl is safe to take during pregnancy. I asked my doctor yesterday & was given the ok to use it as necessary.

This sounds very familiar.

The headaches and eye pressure are in your sinuses. Talk to your doctor about something you can do for allergies. If nothing else, benadryl is safe to take during pregnancy, I think (but double check, please?) - not good for all the time, but it'll give you enough relief to make falling asleep easier at night. (Not to mention the "drowsy" factor...)

For the itchy eyes, eyedrops are okay - they don't get absorbed into the bloodstream, so they are safe. There are some good OTC eyedrops, but if you are really bad, Pataday is a good (but expensive) prescription drop.

Alternating a warm and cold compress over your face will help with some of the swelling in your sinus cavities, too, and help relieve that sinus headache a little bit.

For long-term, pineapple juice and cherry juice are natural anti-inflammatories. They don't work right away, but they can help keep things from getting worse. (Helps with the swollen hands and ankles a little bit, too!)

Hang in there, mama!

Sounds like a sinus issue to me. Whether it is caused by an allergy or a virus, only your doctor will be able to detect. He/she can prescribe a safe medicine that will help you through the discomfort.

Sounds like allergies to me. I get sinus infections quite often and the pressure in my sinuses is very painful and I'm usually congested to the point I cant breath in and out my nose. Oh and sorry for the ick factor but an infection usually means bright green boogers. I'd call your Dr, the only thing I was allowed to take when I was pregant was sudafed.

I would recomend talking to the dr or at least the nurse. THey can tell you what is safe to take.

If allerys, need to identfy the source.. Pollen, mold etc.. See if you can alleviate it ..Pollen, rinse off when coming in from out side, keeps doors closed and ac/heat on to reduce it in your home. etc.. If Mold, need to find the source.. if you are eating a new food maybe that is causing it, or maybe your hormones are changing your system.

When I got pregnant, there were times I could not wear my ring that I had worn for 5 years.. now all of a sudden it is causing me a rash.

I know that for me Chocolate and Bannana hurt my sinus at times.. I have to watch when I eat them.. I can not have them when a storm system is comming in because it causes headachs. On a non weather day, I am fine.

Good Luck

It sounds like a sinus infection.
You can try rinsing your nose out with saline using a neti pot.
It can help to soothe irritated tissues, and you can do it as often as you want to.

Sounds like allergies/sinus issues.

How's the air quality there now? Pollen or anything in the air?
Or cold air?
That could cause that. Too.
Or did you eat something, and after that you got this reaction?
The itchiness on your face could be allergy, or it could be dry skin.

Tell your Doctor.
Being you are pregnant.

sounds like allergies, maybe a sinus infection. For allergies you can take Clariton for allergies and tylenol for headache but if neither work I would def go see your dr. If it's a sinus infection then he may prescribe you something else. Not sure how high allergens are where you are but I know here they are high and fought them all through my pregnancy.
