I am looking for advice on if I should pierce my daughters ears or not. All replies are welcome. I'm not sure if I should or not so thought I'd ask other Mom's what they think. Thanks so much for your input.

Hello well my daughter is now 23mos and I had wanted to pierce her ears at like 3 mos. My BF was like NO. he said to wait till she is old enough to decide herself. But I disagree with HIM... I think all girls want their ears pieced and yeah you can do it later which is what we will do. I decided it would be mean to just do it behind his back when he felt so strongly against it. But I think its fine but its best to do before they hit 6mos old because they may play with them too much and realize they are there and pull at thier ears alot. When you do it when they are younger they don't realize that they are there.

I pierced my daughter's ears at 7 months. The doctor said as long as the first shots are done, there is nothing to worry about. I wanted to get it done before she would remember. She cried just a little right after, but was mad at the piercer, not me. I had mine done when I was 10 and they were infected all the time. My daughter's have never been infected and she doesn't play with them, either. I have not put dangly or hoops in, though, I just stick with ones that won't accidentally get ripped out.

i pierced my daughter's ears at 8 months and had no problem. I would suggest take her to Walmart because they pierce it at same time.

Wait. If she wants holes in her ear lobes when she is older, she can get it done herself. Besides, it might be a good bargaining chip down the road!! ie: pass your LSAT, you can get your ears pierced.....something like that!!

Hi J.,

I have two daughters, ages 6 and 11. My 11 year old had her ears pierced the fist time when she was 4, keeping them cleaned was difficult at best and the wholes finally closed. We tried again when she was 6 or 7, same thing happened. The third time was the charm, at 9 she made the choice to have them redone and took care of them herself, all good. Grandma took my then 5 year old to have them done, she is six now and does not have open holes in her ears and I wont offer it until she asks and can care for them herself. I would suggest waiting.

I pierced my daughters ears at two months. The day they got their first shots. Their doctor said it didn't matter, if they were going to have a bad day with five shots two more were not going to bother them that much. It wasn't even that bad. The girl at Piercing Pagoda was fast and they only cried for about thirty seconds. Now they are ten months old and used to their earrings. They don't pull or touch them at all.
