Personal Fashion Consultant for a Low Budget

I feel a bit weird asking about this because I am by no means some kind of fashionista or care too much about trends. My closet, however, is full of "nothing to wear" since most of it doesn't fit anymore. I've never been good at accessorizing or picking out outfits. I pretty much have usually stuck to solids and basic pieces that I can mix and match. It's definitely time for a make-over of sorts and I would like help. When I get into a store I usually end up getting too tired and overwhelmed and leave with nothing. I'm quite happy staying in pajamas all day long (when I'm staying at home, of course. LOL), but I would like to feel more put together when I do leave the house.
So, I am wondering if any of you have ever used some kind of consultant to shop with before and if you could pass on their contact info. Thanks!

I totally understand where you're coming from! Visit www.flylady.net and there should be a section, under FlyLady Friends, called Leslie aka MissusSmartyPants. She has a lot of fashion advice. Check out the whole site, there are a lot of awesome ideas:)! Just email me too if you have any questions.

Oh, I didn't realize someone posted about her. But some of her advice is free through FlyLady. Check that out too.

Pamela at white house black market helped me so much. Everything in the store mixes and matches well with clothing that I already have. She is honest about what looks good on me and what doesn't. She is at the southlake store and usually works weekday mornings. If you
Bring pictures of your wardrobe or even bring in your favorite wardrobe pieces that you need help turning into outfits she can help you put yourself together. You might want to call the store before you go to make sure she is scheduled to be there. Good luck.

Check out Missus Smartypants at http://www.missussmartypants.com/. For a modest fee,(I think it's about $10 for a 3 month trial) she gives style advice based on your body type. Then weekly, she sends an email with online shops that has clothes that best fit your body type. You learn about what types of clothes best fit you, then when you go out to shop, you have a better idea what to look for. She also gives advice about clearing out your closet, what basics are essential, what colors are best, etc. It's been a great investment for me, at the price of one item of clothing!

If I were you, I would start with a couple of nice trendy, comfortable jeans, and some basic tops. The darker the better to conceal weight. You can always dress up jeans with shoes accesories, or dressier tops. I would try Plato's closet. It is a trendy resale shop with great prices. There is one in Highland Village and a new one in Denton.
