I just had my first baby 6 months ago and I started leaking around five or six months. The doctor told me it was perfectly normal and I ended up having a great milk supply. I guess when you start it all depend on the person because everyone's hormone levels and bodies in general are different.

Is this your first baby? I don't remember lactating that early with my first but each one since then ( I am currently pregnant with my sixth) I do seem to have some colostrum around 5 or 6 months.
There is nothing wrong with it, and it is perfectly normal. Congrats on the upcoming arrival of your baby, and I hope you feel better soon.

This is perfectly normal - don't worry about it. I am due the same time as you (but it is baby #10) and I am lactating.

In fact, what you can do, to prepare for the time you nurse, is to squeeze a little of the colostrum out and then massage it into the nipples. It is a natural salve and will help keep the nipples supple and protected once you start nursing.

Congratulations on the pregnancy. I pray the rest of it goes smoothly!

I started leaking colostrum at ELEVEN WEEKS with my first. Yikes...now that's early!!! I've had two since, and I don't remember if I even leaked at all with them. So to answer your question, it is perfectly normal. Many women leak very early, some just before birth, some never leak at all while pregnant. Just go ahead & stock up on breast pads now...you'll need them for a while!

Congratulations on your first little one, and I hope you are over the flu soon. That's never fun, but even worse while pregnant. Take care of yourself!!

You aren't alone!!!

I had many issues with my prolactin levels (which affect milk production), and I was actually making small amounts of milk 2 years before I even got pregnant! My OBGYN said this can happen, and as long as it isn't green or excessive, then it's not harmful. It completly stopped during my first trimester, and then came back when I was 5 mo along. By the time I was 38 weeks, I could actually pump out 2 ozs! (BTW, I that can cause you to go into labor, which is exactly why I was doing it, so don't actually try to make it come out unill you are reay for the baby to comeout:} The fluid I made during preg. was clear and watery, more like colostrum than milk.
It's just another one of those weird pregnancy things that no on tells you about!

No, don't worry about wasting the colostrum. Labor and delivery will trigger actual lactation. The most important thing is to start breastfeeding as soon as possible after delivery. My daughter has been weaned for a year and I still occasionally have a little discharge.

Good luck. If you plan on breastfeeding, now would be a good time to find a local La Leche League meeting. They'll provide you with a lot of information and support.

Girl, I did the same thing only was leaking at four months prego. Weird I know!! I was wearing breast pads during my pregnancy. When my son was born I had milk!!! Most people say thta when your baby is born that it takes about 2-4 days for milk to come in, not me!! I had milk and the yellow stuff they call colostrum right off the bat! It was a good thing for my son! He ate like a pig from the get go and was a big chunky baby. We skipped right past the 2-4 oz at a feeding. He would nurse and get way more than that from me each time. It is a good thing!! Don't worry! Maybe it too is a sign you will have lots of milk to give your baby. Start wearing pads or soon you will wake up wet!

cool name! sorry you were sick, load up on the vitamins. I don't think that lacatatin early is that stange, I've heard of it happening before. A call the on-call nurse at your OBGYN office would be your best bet to ease your concscience. congrats of the new baby!

You've already had some great advice about what's happening with your body and I agree. It's normal. What I wanted to suggest to you was that you invest in some washable nursing pads rather than the disposable kind. It saves a lot of money. Sounds like you'll need them. Good luck and Congratulations!
