Leaks While Pregnant???

Ladies:

I am 26 weeks along with my first. On Saturday night, I woke up to find what could only have been trails of dried milk along my left breast. I am not sure how/ why this happened. I thought milk production didn't kick in till after the baby came along.

Any thoughts?
Also, if I can leak while I am sleeping, is there any chance I could leak during the day?
What does one use to prevent spotting/ staining of one's clothes? (my husband, GBH, suggested breast nappies)

Thanks a bunch.

What can I do next?

I definitely had leaking (mostly in the shower) from about 30 weeks on. I just grabbed a box of breast pads from the local drug store and started using them daily. I even slept in a tank-top with support so that I could use breast pads at night.

Not to worry! Yaaaay, lactation!

I agree with Julia, I think is great. I mean, am sure is not so cool right now, but with my kids I always was wonder if I had enough to feed them because I barely saw anything coming out unless I pump.
There are several pads that you can buy at any baby store, perhaps s a good time for you to look what you like and works for you and not when baby born and you are too tired, too busy.
Congrats with your baby and happy breastfeed

Nope... milk production kicks in early, usually 1st or 2nd trimester. It just doesn't come on full force until day 2-4 after birth (colostrum being the first couple days... and then your milk comes in and you get to look like an Anime character with balloon boobs -and take mild pain killers, 'cause that hurts).

They have cool little gel pads (like the gel that's found in diapers) that you can insert in between your nipples and your bra.

<laughing> They ARE kind of breast nappies. But they're small. Round tea bag size small.

Some people make milk before they give birth. Others even when they are not pregnant at all. Take it as a sign that you will have ample milk for your baby.

If you are worried about leaks just use what ever you were planning on using while you nursed your baby. I would suggest washable pads of all cotton only since synthetic throw away types can damage your nipples.

I started this at about the same time with my first, its colostrum, very common to have this I usually only had it happen when my breasts weren't supported (in a bra) in the evenings,,,never had an issue during the day though

This is completely normal. If you notice it during the day buy some breast pads.

Lucky that it took you this long for it to happen! I swear that I got pregnant and within the first three months was constantly leaking! I just wore breast pads if it got bad (which it almost never did), and made sure that I had some sort of bra on almost always (even if it was just a comfy sports bra). It was a pain, but so were the leaky boobs! Good luck!

Totally normal. With my first pregnancy, it started around 30 weeks. We are expecting #2 in mid-August and I started leaking about week 24. It isn't actually milk - it is colostrum. I am leaking from both breasts now and it is pretty significant. I'm wearing either pretty thick sports bras or nursing bras during the day and not worrying about it at night. Do I have wet circles on my nightgown? Yes, but I don't care - I'm not ready to wear a bra at night until I have to (when breastfeeding, you'll need a sleeping bra and breastpads even at night). I've never noticed any permanent staining but it could be a bit embarrassing during the day if you look down and find the tell-tale wet circles while in public:)

Congrats- with any luck at all you'll have plenty of milk. With my son, I could pump 24 oz in a single pumping. No problems with supply!

Umm yes this happens and breast pads will help make sure you bring an extra set to work with you. I had this with my first and some nights are worse then others but I really did leak during the day. Good Luck
