Firstly, has anyone had to go through this? I actually have only been out of work for 4 months, so where is the best place to look? there are so many options - I don;t want to spin my wheels?

AND - any ideas on a REINVENTION? I mean, I have a masters degree in counseling, but the helping industry has really taken a toll on me and my family...any suggestions? I really do enjoy helping others, but how to morph that into something more personally fulfilling?

I welcome and and all feedback - I need it! THANKS!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your replies!

I received 11 (which was more than I expected)...but even better was the new friends I made AND all the creative ideas - some of which I thought about YEARS ago, but had totally 'forgotten'.

I definitely feel I am on the right track now! thank you all again!

WOW! Can I relate! 6 years ago I had to leave my professional career due to illness. I had to reinvent myself as well. I have a Bachelor of Arts with a Bachelor of Education with a Specialization in Special Education. I have been the Special Needs coordinator for my school district for 10 years before I became unable to work. It was a challenging decision. I LOVED what I did...it was just making me sick. It was the hardest decision of my life. I, too, wanted to do something meaningful. I wanted to change lives. I searched and searched…I still wanted to “teach”, help others, make a difference on this planet, earn more than enough money to take care of my own family and help others do the same. I wasn’t sure it existed. It took me 2 years, but I found it. What a blessing when I found it. It changed not only my life, but the lives of my family members, and everyone who I share it with.

M., I am not sure what you are looking for but please let me tell you what I know.
I know that when I am not doing what I LOVE, I am not as happy.
I know that if I am “biting the bullet” and doing something for the sake of a paycheque, I will never be satisfied.
I know that I need to be present and helping in whatever I do.
I know that at the end of the day I have to feel fulfilled or I can’t sleep well.
I know that when I wasn’t being ME, no one around me was happy, mostly me.

M., whatever you decide to do is going to be just perfect. You will find what you are looking for. When I found my passion, my life changed. Yours will too. I love the expression: “you have to dig deep down to reach way up”.

Teaching? Definitely not in this budget crisis. Look on caljobs, they seem to have a lot of different types of counseling jobs. In addition, what about working out of your home doing counseling when and how often you want to? In this economy, your degreee and area of expertise will give you a leg up on certain jobs, so choose something you're interested in and see what kinds of jobs there are. There's so much competition out there for any job, you may want to stay in the area you have the most expertise in.

Hi M.,
You might enjoy one or both of the things I do: wellness educator and personal trainer. You can get certified to teach Zumba in a one day workshop, or do self study for some of the pt certs.
Here's a couple of 3 minute phone messages you can listen to for a home-based business: . Roger Barnett, Chairman & CEO - ###-###-####

Good luck and God bless.

Are you passionate about anything? That might be a place to start!

5 years ago I reinvented myself and it kind of fell in my lap! I have always loved cooking and we entertained all the time. I was on a committee for a Mother's Day Tea - my job was preparing the food. It went over so well someone at the tea asked me to help with a bridal shower. I laughed in her face!! On the way home a small voice said, "Why not?" I had been struggling with going back to work and I knew then and there it was my answer. One job led to another and now I have been a Personal Chef for 5 years. The money was slow but the gratification (not to mention the boost to my ego!) was huge. And now I’m supporting my family! My husband sold his business 2 years ago and we had no idea it would be so hard to find a job. My income has sustained us through the hardest financial time of our marriage. Good luck on your journey!

Work from home with Sensaria Natural Bodycare. I LOVE what I do, working with women showing them how to take time for themselves, using naturally based skin, bath, and body care products for the whole family. I pamper women which in turn pampers me and I earn good money while doing it and smell good (not like perfume!).

If not Sensaria then find something in Direct Sales that is your passion. With Sensaria you earn your commission at the time of the sale, not next month. Next month you'll receive a bonus check if you want! This can all be done while you look for something out there for full time too.

Sensaria has no minimum monthly requirements. No inventory! No deliveries. Truly your business the way you want it.

Here's something that's working for me!
I am currently working full-time, but just started with another company part-time to bring in extra money. Right now, it’s helping us save money on some of our monthly purchases and bring in some extra income. And some day I will probably be able to work from home exclusively. That is what this company does. It helps moms work from home to have more time with their families. Let me know if you want more information. This may be the reinvention you're looking for right now.

I suggest teaching also. Or some not so stressfull (on you) form of counseling. I don't know the industry but would think that it varies depending on what area of counseling you are working.
Hope this helps :)
