Do You Love Your Job? - Phoenix,AZ

I heard a story on the radio the other day about a survey (I know, take it with a grain of salt!) that found that Americans were nearly overwhelmingly unhappy at work. I don't remember the exact numbers, but they were something like 30% of people were fully engaged at work, 40% were just going through the motions, and 30% were actively disengaged! Personally, I love my job and cannot imagine going somewhere every single day that I did not want to be. I have had lousy jobs before- waitressing, movie theatre, retail- but even in those jobs I did my best to have fun, make friends with my co-workers, something to enjoy the experience while accomplishing the necessary task of making money. Now I have a career that I love. I know I am lucky, but I guess I didn't realize how lucky. Not every day, not every aspect, but I truly love what I do.
So, do you love your job?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am an attorney in the public sector. So I work full time for a government agency, but I still love it :) In fact, I love it partly because it is in the public sector and I feel like I am helping make a positive change in my community.
It would be very interesting to know the demographics involved- men versus women, rural versus urban, socioeconomic levels, political climates, etc.
It is so interesting to hear about the wide range of careers that people love!!

I like my job, I really don't think anyone should love their job. I love my family, I love my friends, my job I like.

For the most part it gives me everything I need.

Before I was a SAHM, I worked as a secretary for almost 20 years - first in the Personnel Dept. then in the Engineering Dept. of the same company - I can honestly say, I absolutely loved my job!!

Now as a SAHM for almost 19 years, I can honestly say I love my job. I especially loved it the first ten (or so) years, but when my kids hit the pre-teen and then teen years, it's been a lot more of a challenge but I guess I still wouldn't trade it for anything. At least I still love the pay - I get an unlimited supply of hugs and kisses, so I guess it isn't all that bad!!

Great question!

I have loved all of the jobs I have ever had.

Now my husband is very unhappy at his work, Maybe it would be interesting to know the difference between men and women.

I'm currently staying home with my little one, but have a graduate degree in the medical field and worked for years before starting a family. I never loved my job, I could do it, I found it rewarding, but I never was excited to go to work. I was always jealous of those that love their jobs, but I just never really enjoyed working (I'm probably not supposed to admit that).

i love my job! nobody's in my field here, i'm surprised. i'm in social services & make home visits to elderly/disabled home bound people. i've been in casework 10 yrs & at this job 2.5 yrs. I'm 33 & totally plan on retiring here. i work all day out of my car but i'm been accustomed to packing lots of snacks & cold waters & stopping at gas stations to potty, etc. Lol....i have a bachelor's degree & always wanted to help ppl. i never wanted to be at a desk job and in this job i get to be professional, help ppl but have the automony i love by setting my own schedule, working from home, etc. No micromanagement here. i love my boss & my coworkers, even though i only see 'em a couple times/wk b/c we're all out working in the field. anyway, i thank God everyday for my job & my boss and pray every day for my clients & their families. :)
good post! :)

Yes! I love my job. 6 yrs ago hubby and I started our own company in the same field he had been employed for about 20+ yrs. I have always been a SAHM and acted as my hubby's customer service rep since the companies he worked for were usually in the Northeast somewhere.

I LOVE being my own boss, making decisions, and controlling the books and company. My hubby loves it because we are working for ourselves and do not have to put up with a lot of things, especially office politics that some people deal with. It also has downsides, just like everything else... since we own it, when there is an issue, it is our issue and our issue to deal with. We pride ourselves on quality and this year our sales are up over 20% from what they were this time last year and last year was a record year!

I also substitute teach and have over 11 yrs. I LOVE the children in elementary and I will continue to make time to go teach at least once a week. Most of my subbing is preplanned so I can work my home office job around the subbing. I don't make much money at it, maybe $500 a month but I am not doing it for the money... I truly love the children and the atmosphere at the school. I only sub at the elementary school where my daughter attended. Subbing is another income stream and if the worst ever happened, it is something I could jump into 100% pretty quickly and not miss a beat as far as pay.

I have had jobs in the past that weren't my favorite but I believe in putting in 100% effort. YOU can make the difference if your attitude is in the right place and you have your goals set and in order. I can't imagine getting up daily and spending 8-10 hours at a place I hated.

yes, I love my job!!

I get the best of both worlds! I get to work from home and have that flexibility for my hours and I get to do what I love!!

Has it been easy over the last few months? No. But we will get through it! This sequestration is hurting a lot of businesses!

I loved being a SAHM! So I do get to continue to be a SAHM - I just get paid to work from home too!!

I love my job. I am an accountant. I love the company I work for and the group of ladies I work with. For me it's everything about my job that I really enjoy (employer, coworkers, hours, the actual daily tasks). I have done the same job at other places and HATED it. And like you said, some days are better than others but overall, love my job.

I have had my ups and downs. Right now I like my job pretty well. I work for a loan company and handle special accounts. My job entails working with debt management companies to work out payment arrangements, handling credit reporting disputes, responding to letters and emails, credit card disputes, etc. I telecommute from home and I am able to work flexible hours as long as I get in my 8 hours a day.
I have not liked the mandatory overtime we had for many months. I don't love negotiating and dislike collection calls. I do wish I could work part time and hope to one day but right now there is too much work to be done and we can use the money. Sometimes the job gets tedious because there is a lot of data entry.
I love my bosses- they trust me to do my job and are very fair. They are great about giving us time off when we ask. I love my coworkers, though to be fair it helps a lot that I am not in the office having to deal with drama. My coworkers do their fair share plus more- we are all willing to pitch in if someone is getting behind. My coworkers do a great job and rarely drop the ball. We are a good team. I like working from home even though there are challenges. I love the organizational aspect of my job and I actually really enjoy typing and writing letters. My favorite parts of my job are that there is always more work than you can ever get to so I am always busy and not bored, plus that is great job security! Also I really like that I have lots of different responsibilities and can jump around from one thing to another which is really how I am most effective. I love that I do not have to socialize- I do best when I am on my own, focused on my own task. I also have not been to a conference room meeting in over 5 years which makes me very happy!

I wouldnt say I love it. I don't hate it either. Its challenging and there are all kinds of different things that come around. My company does do nice things for us. I think its more the people I don't care for than the job. I am working on ways to tolerate people more.

Got to love the computer. I typed it out and it went to the other world.

I like my job very much. It gives me a place to go during the day and I get a monetary reward. In the past six months, I have gotten more responsibiity and things to do to make my day go by faster.

When I thought about quitting hubby got ill and they let me take off and be with him and keep my job. When my son broke his legs in a car accident they took up a collection for me to travel to see my son. So how can you really leave a "family" like that? We all have our quirks.

Find something good in what you and make it worth your while to go to work until you can find what you desire. Give it your 100% and do the best you can do and know that you did and walk away with your head held high. I am also working on a business so that whenI I retire I have something to do that I enjoy.

the other S.

PS When I retire I will be home with hubby who has his amateur radio operator license - I recently got mine - and we can enjoy life together for ever how long he will be here.

Yes, I do love my job most of the time. I am working in the field in which I got my two degrees. My area of expertise really lends itself well to my strengths. That being said, I am feeling a bit burned out right now. One of the projects I am working on is especially difficult due to the office politics involved...thankfully it isn't within my priority responsibilities and is something that I have just picked up over the years. I have been really stressed about it.

Wow. I'm surprised to see that so many of you actually love your jobs. Unfortunately for me, I don't, which is not to say that I'm not grateful for my job, especially considering the current economy. I work full-time for a government agency. The pros: the pay, benefits, ability to work from home two times per week, and most important of all, my massive student loans will be canceled after 10 years of service. The cons: the pay, office politics -- promotions, etc. are not actually based on merit, but who you know and brown nosing, and my actual duties -- it's super boring. Having been a government employee for about two years, I can see why there are so many lazy government workers (no offense to the other government workers out there!)...I think I'm becoming one of them.

If more people took the time to find out what they truly love to do--regardless of how much money it makes--more people would be happy with their jobs/professions.

We as a society are so wrapped up in "how much money can I make with this type of a job" that we end up chasing the jobs that can make us the most money--and not necessarily a job that is one that we really want to do. Or that we have passion or are ideally suited for.

If you have talent and passion, any job can be turned into a profitable one. That's where the passion and drive come in.

And yes, I love my job--freelance editing. However, the editing/writing world is changing at warp speed. There's not a lot of stability or payment for all the hours and work put in.

That's why I am now pursuring another love of mine--helping people live healthier. I am pursuing certification in nutrition and wellness counseling, so I can do what my heart really wants me to do. I've loved the researching I've been doing on my own for the past six years and am looking forward to taking that knowledge and empowering people to change their lives.

Love, love, love my job! I have never woke up and said oh dang work again! Sometimes I'm amazed I get paid for what I do even though some days are crazy hard! I have often said being happy everyday of your life and getting paid for doing something you love, far overshadows making tons of money and dreading everyday of your life! What do I do? I am a childcare worker and I work with babies! I laugh, play, give and receive so much unconditional love, how could you not love that!
