Myself Work from Home - Minneapolis, MN

Hi all, I just recently became unemployed after working at the same company for over 12 years. I have been home with the kids for a week and a half now and am loving it. I would like to stay home with them and was wondering what kinds of things could I do from home to bring in extra cash. I don't really want to do the whole daycare thing. I always see the ads "work form home" are they all scams or are some of them real? The ones that advertise for medical billing sounds interesting and is something I could do while my youngest is napping or at night after they are in bed. My son has been struggling in school also and being home gives me more time to help him with his school work. If it works out for me to stay home full time I am thinking about home schooling next year. I now some of you SAHM will have some good advice. Thanks P.

What can I do next?

Isn't it amazing the longing God puts in our hearts to be a SAHM?! I know that feeling well!!! I used to cry after we dropped off our kids at daycare on our way to work. I'll never forget the first day my husband drove off to work without me after I became a SAHM. I cried again but this time happy kids were in bed sleeping and I thought, "THIS is how its supposed to be!!" That was over 14 years ago. It was because I started working from home after researching SO many companies. Jumping ahead a few years, because our business grew so well, my husband was able to quit his job as well. We're now both home raising our four children.

Here's our business intro:
We have over 14 years experience training others to work from home. Our expertise in the field has benefited people across the nation; helping them to develop supplemental or replacement income. We began our married life as teachers but, as we became parents, our desire to spend more time with our children caused us to find the best option to earn income from home. The result of our research and determination is a solid business built on integrity and teamwork. Because of our success, we have made it our goal to mentor others to earn the income they desire.

P., there are literally hundreds, maybe thousands of home-based businesses out there. Be cautious. Unfortunately, many are scams and many others will make un-kept promises. Research like crazy! I will be more than happy to tell you all about my business. It likely will be a great fit for you, but if not, it will be a starting point for you to begin comparisons.
Send me a personal message & we’ll talk.

Hi P.,

I too work from home. Have had both traditional business and the in-home business. Love the in-home biz the best! If you would like to learn more, please visit our website:

The company has been around for 23 years. They are registered with the BBB. We have an incredible 95% re-order rate, which with today's economy, says alot. The business & the products are 100% guaranteed, so there are no risks. The business is willable and transferable to your children, which is another reason why I work this business. I am using the business to build my retirement account also. I would rather invest my time & money into something that has a 95% return on it! You can earn as much as you put into it. It takes work and committment. If you are interested and want to learn more simply give me a call, fill out the form on the website or e-mail me.

Hi P.!
I'm a home-based, home-schooling, work from home mom. And I love it. However it does take some flexibility. You see, when everyone is using the house all day, it gets messy. And sometimes, floors and dishes don't get clean when you have to teach math or reading and then get on Mamasource! But I believe if you make the decision to stay at home and school at home, you will never regret it! My experience is, though, that with a business, you are going to need some day care sometimes. A network of Moms is good, or others in your business that can help out. The message that "you can have it all" is partially true. I really do have it all. I just don't have it all, all the time. If I'm doing meetings, that's the focus for that day. If I have a clean house, kids may learn "household management" that day and not science which is fine. You get the idea. The good part is, for a 7 year old, 2 hours per day of school is probably plenty depending on how you do it.

First I do want to say be careful of work from home scams. Also watch out for businesses that toot easy income, with no selling/etc. There are some companies out there that really sound good, but I've watched people spend a lot of money on both products they didn't really want and advertising to make a little bit of money.

That said, the key is to find your passion. What do you love? What are your skills and talents? For me, my passion is my children, so I sell children's books. I love it and do well, but my heart is in it. :-) I feel good about what I am doing and believe in the product. So keep that in mind.

There are companies that hire. Some pay better then others. You can find a list of companies that hire at

Another good resource is

Remember, follow your heart!

Good luck,

Hi P.

I am sorry to hear about your job. As some others have said, maybe it is a blessing in disguise. I believe everything happens for a reason; sometimes we don't know what the reason is...yet :o)

I have been scammed numerous times with "online jobs" and "work from home" things.

I found a great work at home resource center called
They research companies and if they are legit, will allow the company to post their job opening on the sohojobs website.

What is great about this, the companies are actually posting jobs and hiring people to work from home!
We are in the days of "outsourcing" and companies are really seeing the benefits in hiring people to work out of the home...not the office.

I love this, and it has been a real blessing for me and my family.

Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have questions!

Hi have done really well bringing in extra income with Scentsy wickless candles. you can check them out if you want at My sis in law transcribed medical records for awile and it was really demanding. She said that she was stuck on their schedule. But maybe it was just the company she worked for.

Hi P.,
Not easy to loose a job but this could be a blessing in disguise. I looked a long time for a good company that would allow me to work from home. The key is to find something that excites you and/or touches your heart that you can have a passion for.
What I found is a company that falls in line with my passion to help others.
If you are someone with a positive attitude, wants a healthy lifestyle and help others do the same, I can find some time to do an internet phone appt. that would give you all the valuable information for you to determine if this is something of interest to you.

I too have been a stay at home mom for nearly 2 1/2 years - and in January realized I needed to do something for me outside of the house.

Recently - I've been graciously labeled a "serial" entrepreneur ... and felt so absolutely honored to hear that.

Please understand that for most of the time I was at home, I researched different ways to make money from home while taking care of my babies, buying handfuls of books, spending hours online at nite looking into different "promising" websites and such.

I would love to talk with you regarding my stay at home monetizing experiences - which kind of just happened because I needed more for me than my little miracles could offer.

Please message me when you have a chance and I can share with you some very interesting things I've learned in my experiences.
