I'm a new mom of twin boys nursing exclusively. I intend to nurse them for a year. I would like to have my family baby sit for me, however the boys do not take a bottle at all (or pacifier), so we are limited to going out for 2-3 hours. My inlaws attempted to watch them last weekend, but had no luck with them taking the bottle. Any suggestions on what I can try?
I go to a nursing moms network on Tuesday mornings in Orland. If you call Palos Hospital in Palos Hills, Il. and ask to speak with the lactation consultants they will help you out. If they are not availiable leave a message and they will definitely get back to you.

Firtst, congratulations on the birth of your babies and good for you for exclusively nursing twins. A good book is "Mothering Multiples". A cup or syringe can be an option. If they haven't already had formula I wouldn't suggest it as it can alter thier gut making them more prone to illness. Some babies as they get older will just wait for mom to get home to nurse. Make sure you tank them up before you leave. Maybe you could go somewhere close, come home and nurse them and then go back out. Also, try going out for lunch or a different time of the day than evening. Most babies want to nurse frequently in the evening. It sounds like your babies are still really young. It won't be long until they are less dependent on you. In the meantime, just take short outings. Or maybe you could set up a romantic dinner and movie at your house for you and your partner, have the sitter watch the boys in another room and only bring them to you to nurse. I know it seems like you will never get out, but you will. They are only little for such a short time.
I nursed my twin girls and they would never take bottles either. I pretty much had short outings for the first 6 months until they started on solids. You can try breastmilk in a sippy with the no-spill thing taken out, a medicine dropper works sometimes and some babies will take a bottle if it doesn't have breastmilk in it, you might try formula. Hi J.- I nursed all my 4 kids and only 1 (my 1st) ever took a bottle. You can just keep trying by going out close by and being willing to come home (On a hopeful note by 9 mo my 2nd daughter would take breast milk in a sippy when I was gone -for #3 and #4 we didn't get out much!)
