Newborn Diapers

Just curious to know how many of you actually buy the Newborn size diapers and if so which brand? I'm expecting # 4 and only purchased the newborn size with my first baby who was 8/1. All my other babies (both boys) have been bigger (10/3 & 8/15) and went straight to size 1's.
However I want to be prepared in every way possible when the new baby comes (a girl) and I got some coupons from a friend for some diapers (huggies natural fit coupons) and thought I should purchase maybe at least one bag of the newborn size. I've always used Huggies with my babies since they were on the bigger side so I was thinking maybe the Huggies newborn size will fit her well if she is on the bigger side.

The baby is showing to already be big based on ultrasound measurements, at 28 weeks she was in the 99th percentile weighing almost 4lbs so I just don't know for sure if it will be a waste of money buying the bag of newborn diapers. I know I can always return them but I HATE dealing with return counters and it's so time consuming.

Anyhow, looking forward to reading the responses and thank you so much for your help!!

We loved the Pampers Swaddlers!

You could always send hubby or a friend or other family member to the store to exchange them for you if you end up not needing that size :)

Or save them and gift them to another expecting mama.

I never new the size of either of my babies but I bought the newborn size for both of them (only 1 or 2 packs to start). Turned out to be great for me because my daughter (she was supposed to be 9 lbs give or take a lb) was 7lbs 5 oz at 6 days past due and my son (I did not even want them to guess or tell me because they were so off the first time) was 6lbs 13oz. at 7 days past due. We used the newborns for about a month with both.

If you trust what the ultrasound tech said (my guess is your due date is off or the ultrasound tech is off) then skip the newborns because that size baby would not fit for more than a week. Based on the past history of the size of your babies I would buy a size 1; the hospital provides diapers when you are there and if when you get home they are too big you can go buy the newborn and save the size 1s to use in another month.

I love the Pampers Swaddlers and used that brand with both because they are super soft, they allowed for belly button healing, and they now come with a cool stripe that starts yellow and turns green when they are soiled (this came in VERY HANDY in the hospital when they made you record diaper changes and we were waiting for the first pee).

When I had my son... the u/s said he would be around 9lb 6oz. So I only had size 1 diapers at home. When he was born (was induced), he was only 7lb/15oz. So I asked the hospital if I could have a pack of newborn diapers to hold me over a day or two until I could get to the store. You could always do that if needed... or have friends/family run at the last minute and get some for you. If you want to get them ahead of time.... and end up not using them. I'm sure walmart/babies r us/target would exchange them for size 1 with no problems as long as they were unopened.

My son was born 3 weeks ago and he was 8 lbs 6 oz (he was a week early, and my daughter before was 8/14). I did purchase one case of newborn diapers and it worked out great. I think it said up to 8 or 9 pounds on the case and they still fit him until I ran out, the 1's that he is wearing now are actually a little big for him and I know he is over 9 lbs now. We also did get 2 bags of newborns in the hospital, so between the ones from the hospital and the case I already had it was perfect.

Good luck!

I have a 3 week old daughter that was born at 8/11, she wore the newborn diapers until last week and I switched over to size 1 (she now weighs 10/6). I also used the Huggies as well as the Pampers ones we got from the hospital. I would buy one package for sure for the first couple days. I ended up buying about 3 "jumbo" packages and when they ran out, I switched to the size 1's.

Congrats on the new baby!

I used newborn pampers swaddlers on all mine but they were all under 7 #. I used the newborn sizes for about 2 months. Congratulations!
