Needing Advice on My 7 Year Old Stepson

Today, out of nowhere, my 7 year old approached me after dinner. He started talking about how at his mom's house, she made him eat broccoli and he puked. At first, I blew it off, because honestly he's a really picky eater. Then he blew me away by informing me that when he puked her boyfriend, told him to eat his puke, and he did. I asked where his mom was in all this and he said she was giving his brothers a bath. I asked if he had told her and he said no. I informed him that if something like that happens he needs to tell her or us because its not okay. I don't know what to do, I worry about sending him back there, because of this and it just adds to the uneasiness I've had because he's been withdrawing more. I don't know what to do, if I try to report it, they blow it off, and never check back on it. Like when she refused to give our youngest his breathing treatment because she didn't think they were working, I knew because the medicine I sent was returned with the same amount in it. She told them she was using old medicine that he had, which makes very little sense, since it was the first episode with his asthma in a year. So I don't know what to do. She called child endangerment on us last month, after our oldest called and told her he was the only one awake. So I know that they will think we are just trying to get even. Any advice.

What can I do next?

CALL SOCIAL SERVICES IMMEDIATELY!!!! Your stepson is in danger and is being abused. What did your husband say when his son told him his mother's boyfriend made him eat puke??? Do not worry about what the mother thinks because she also needs to know what her boyfriend did and her reaction will speak volumes. I can not believe that any human being would do that to a child. My prayers are with you. Mel

I completely agree with the other responses. Go with your gut. Talk to your husband. Then maybe he can talk with the mom. I would contact DFS regardless of the family thinking you're getting even. Your stepson's well being is the most important issue. http://www.rollanet.org/~childlaw/miscdocs/dfsrca.htm

Your story reminds of the book "A child called it" (there is a series actually). A terrible true story by David Pelzer. He has risen from his experience and become an advocate for abused children.

I would discuss the situation with your attorney, and see if it should be followed up with as a legal matter. you do need to let his mother and boyfriend know you are aware of the incident and just pray nothing happens that bad again. talk witha social worker at your child's school to find a way to further an investigation.

First tell your stepson Thank you for telling you and acknowledge you know it must have been hard. This will build up the trust, that he already has with you. And it's great you have built a trusting relationship with your stepson.

It needs to be reported, even you don't think anything will come of it. At age 7 they should interview him and ask him what happened.

If you feel your stepson is in danger, your husband can ask for a temporary sole custody order.

Your husband needs to have a sit down talk with his mother.

Best of luck!

I think you need to talk to your husband and have him talk to his son's mom. If that doesn't work, I would contact an attorney and see what they recommend you do. I would contact DHS again and let them know what he told you just so that there is a record of you making the report so that it shows a pattern of behavior when he goes to his mom's house. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you. You and your family are in my thoughts!!
