Need Help with My Baby's Sleeping Problems

This is normal mine did the same thing. We moved into a new home the day before her birthday. She slept fine and then a month later she would wake up all night long and stay awake! After three day's of this what I did was instead of putting her back down to sleep at 8:30 am when she was tired I kept her awake. I gave her only one nap during the day...making her utterly exausted (as she made me). After two day's of this...she went to bed and stayed there.

Re the eating thing....oh yea been there dont that. We had day's that she would only eat Cheerieos. She does get a daily vitamin in her juice each day.

Then after her sergery she would only eat 2 slices of Turkey breast for two weeks. Since she was loosing weight I did get concerned. I put her on formula for her morning Sippie cup and fed her what she wanted and then would give her more options each day and wait and see if she wanted to eat them.

Now at 18 mo she wont eat breakfast and for lunch only eats the same thing every day for lunch (sliced turkey, diced tomatoes, string mozerella (sp?) cheese and a fruit cup and if she is still hungry gold fish. For dinner she will eat anything. Hey as long as she is eating.

I am told She will do this as she is asserting herself. Also to expect restless nights as she is teething and going through growth spirts.

Check to see if his molars are coming in. He may resist you looking, but if you stick your finger back there and feel on his gums, and they are swollen, or even have a tooth breaking through, that is a very likely culprit! It makes chewing hurt, and laying down hurt etc. So, try giving motrin every 6-8 hours one day, even supplementing with Tylenol if needed, and see if he is better about sleeping. Some kids really react to teeth, while others breeze through it. Also, sometimes the Hyland teething tablets help. That would be my first guess, but if that is not it, for sure head to the pedi office. Good luck! ~A.~

When I read your message, it sounded like it was me talking! I'm having the same issues with my son and he just turned one two weeks ago. We have been patient over the past two weeks just trying to calm him down and not forcing the food issue. I've talked to the nurse several times and taken him to the doctor once. Apparently this is common behavior for this age and it will pass. The one constant with child-rearing is change! Good luck and keep your chin up.

I agree... I think you should talk to your pediatrician. It sounds like he's waking up from discomfort or pain. Is he teething maybe? Or having acid reflux? You might take note of what foods he is eating and those he's staying away from so that you and the doctor might be able to make a connection.

Something else you could try is to put a cd player in his bedroom and play soothing bedtime music. I did this for my boys and they love it.

My first thought was if he's not eating good anymore than that might be why he's not sleeping good anymore. I would call your pedi. Maybe he is having some tummy troubles that are causing him not to eat well. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I would call the pedi and make an appt. It could be anything. Teething, acid reflux, etc. It could also be he is about to reach a milestone or big ecent in his life. They tend to have theses issues sometimes when they are getting ready to do something for the first time, or having a growing spurt. Mine is getting ready to walk and is a terror. Also at his 1 year appt two weeks ago the pedi did say this is the age where they start eating less and may not want to eat. She said not to compensate with milk. Just they are not as hungry and not to worry. His body makes sure he gets what he needs and won't let him not eat and starve.

Is he teething? i have two baby boys and my youngest is 14 months old and is currently trying to have four teeth break through. some nights he is perfectly fine and other nights he is passed out asleep only to be bawling ten minutes later, and he can do this off and on for a long time if i continuely go in and calm him down. the answer i have is orajel. i put a pea sized amount on the two bottom teeth and again on the upper teeth as well as tylenol and as soon as the baby orajel is on he passes right back out all on his own. my husband is a dentist, so i know the orajel is not bad for a baby.
