Hi Mamas! So I've been elected to host a baby shower for my older sister. She's having a boy in May. Obviously I have two children of my own, but its been almost three years since my youngest was born. Also I never had a shower.... so I am trying to get ideas for a very budget friendly shower!! Fun things to do, ideas for decorating, the MUST HAVE items for new mommies! She doesn't want to play a lot of the games, but I think I'm gonna sneak a few in. She is also asking for my help with her registry, which I've given input..... and well I've given her a lot of our baby stuff that I still had lingering.... but I feel I have missed a few things. Thanks in advance for all your input! :)

I have thrown a few "nontraditional" showers and here are some of the games we played
1. bobbing for nipples
2. Guess the poop: melt different candy bars in diapers and you have to guess what candy it is
3. It's not really a game but have someone write down remarks she makes while opening presents without her knowing and when it is all done, Announce to everyone here are a few things that could have been overheard the night the baby was made: usually it gets a good laugh, especially with the "it is so tiny" and "how cute"
Have fun!

We had a couples baby shower and played the newlywed game. My brother and my husbands best friend showed up in diapers, bonnets and with pacifiers in their mouths. It was a riot!

If you have the shower at a time that's after lunch and before dinner (around 3 or 4), you can get away with only finger foods for the guests, like little sandwiches, chips, dips, cocktail size hot dogs and such. If you choose dinner or lunch, you can buy a couple of frozen lasagnas, salad and garlic bread. Don't forget the cake!
For decorations, go to the dolar stores (like Dolar Trea) and you'll find decorations, plates, cups, napkins and gifts for the games.
You can find games ideas in the internet and most of them only requires paper and a printer.
As for registry, she can register where she may find most of her needs and perhaps mention gift cards. I got mainly gift cards and it allowed me to buy the expensive items that I needed when added together.
Good luck and have fun!

I'm not big on games, but my fav. as a new mommy was the basket game. My sisters put about 20-30 small objects I needed in a basket (pacifiers, bottle brush, travel size toiletries, etc.), let people look for about 2 minutes, then hid the basket. People have to list what they can remember. The best part was that it was part of my present. A very budget friendly decoration- hang clothesline across the room and as presents are opened, hang the baby clothes along the clothesline. They also put stuffed animals all over the room. Go to the dollar store for inexpensive decorations.
Must have items for me...
- a good breast pump if nursing and a nursing cover
- A sling
- diapers in various sizes & wipes
- 2 Ultimate crib sheets (They go on top of the entire crib sheet and snap onto the crib rails, unlike sheet savers that only cover part of the sheet. Makes changing the sheet in the middle of the night quick and super easy! Having 2 is nice because when the baby soils one, you can put another on just in case- and I've gone through both in one night before)
- A bouncy seat or portable swing to move around to whatever room you are in so you can shower, do dishes, do laundry, etc.
- swaddlers for 0-3 mo. (blankets that velcro to swaddle- I could never do it with a receiving balnket) and sleep sacks for 3+ mo. (wearable blankets)
- pack & play sheets
