You can't go wrong with Marilyn Divine at Leepin Lizards Hair Place, (1112 NW 21st Ave). She's cut and colored my thick hair exclusively for over a decade now. She and the shop are very fashion forward, and definately up on the the latest trends, but you will always feel comfortable and welcomed there. One of the things I really like about Marilyn is her ability to listen to your ideas, but also bring them back down to earth a little, so you end up with a style you love, but that you can also manage to take care of at home. She really just wants you to be happy with your hair---you'll never get any attitude or a cut that SHE wants you to have, you'll just get to spend a couple of hours getting beautified and having fun conversations. Denice at Akemi Salon is awesome. The salon is on N. Williams, not far at all from 5. I hear her business partner is awesome at both too, so I'm sure you can go to either. Denice basically cuts my entire family's hair (husband, sister, mom, dad, and friends) and cut and colored my friend's hair when she was in from out of town.
