I'm having trouble finding inexpensive girls sz 11 ballet shoes for my daughter who's class starts Saturday. Does anyone know of a place either in the Northwest burb or Chgo/Jefferson Pk area?

What can I do next?

Please listen to those moms who said below that you should ask the dance studio (or individual teacher if it's not at a studio) and get real shoes from a proper ballet supply store or someplace like discountdance.com. If the class is at a studio they may sell shoes right there.

You want shoes that are either real leather or good canvas -- not that shiny polyester stuff that many stores like Target and Walmart sell! That's why you need a dance supply store. Ask the studio whether they prefer leather or canvas. Also ask if the teacher wants "full sole" or "split sole" shoes -- there's a difference in how they work and feel.

You will not get good canvas or leather shoes for dirt-cheap prices; expect to pay more than a few bucks but it shouldn't be too bad. Good shoes will make her much more comfortable and she will focus on dancing, not on how her shoes feel. Good luck and I hope she enjoys her class.

I have bought them at several places. Payless, Walmart, Target, re-sale stores and even Goodwill once!

discountdance.com is great. I shop on their website also. Their prices are the best.
You probably won't be able to get them by Sat. but try them in the future.
If your daughter's class is at a ballet school they may have a pair that she can borrow just for that day.

Please ask the ballet teacher where to buy them. The ballet shoes at payless and other shoes store that are not dance supply stores have a lot of cardboard in them and they don't last.

You can order online at many many dance supply companies but I bet the dance teacher knows who in town sells them. Our store sells the canvas shoe for $19.95, the regular Revolution Pink shoe for $24.95, and the Award ones for $26.95. My granddaughter wears a 13 1/2 shoe, a 13 tap shoe, and a size 2 ballet shoe that has the criss-cross elastic on the top of the foot. You really need to actually put her feet in the shoes.

I am assuming since the shoe size is just an 11 that she is young, the ballet shoe she wears doesn't have to be expensive, just a good shoe that won't fall apart in the middle of class and have to be replaced.

Payless is where I have purchased them for my daughter and they are leather about $20. If you daughter is a serious dancer, then I might ask the teacher or at the school.

Try discountdance.com - I know it's online, but they carry hard to find sizes/widths and could probably ship them in 3 days. (I have big feet too!) :) Hope she loves her class!

Dance 'N Tees in Schaumburg. It's on Salem Drive just south of Golf Road. Not too far from you if you're in Palatine. We usually could find them at Payless, unless it was the beginning of the dance season and they were all picked over.

check payless I know they use to carry ballet shoes or check with your local park district or dance studio they often have used shoe sales. At that age used shoes are pretty new.

I would ask the teacher. Our dance place has a store too. The shoes are better quality and are about the same as Payless. The leoptards and tights are darling and last forever . They are worth the money. We go to BDA dance in Cresthill. The store is Premiere Dancewear.###-###-####
Good luck!

Don't know about your location specifically, but I went to about 20 places looking for ballet shoes and finally found them for about $20 at Payless. I think some ballet schools have them, too.

Try WalMart I used to buy my daughters ballet shoes there. Maybe even Meijer in Rolling Meadows.
