I need 45 sugar cookies or rice krispie treats for my son's kindergarden holiday party. They plan to decorate them. They have to be store bought or I would make them. I appreciate any ideas or suggestions.

What can I do next?

We have done this before and the kids have a blast. The Minyards in Balch Springs donated the cookies and made little bags of iceing in all colors for the kids to use. We bought the color sugar and sprinkles.

You could always order them from Target, Walmart, Kroger or Market Street. Let them know you want sugar cookies to decorate. You could also buy the pilsbury kind and cut the label off and take it in. The label is really what they want to see. I would ask them if you could do that.

A. - I also have to provide sugar cookies for my son's class party. I found them premade at Walmart in the bakery section in a box of 24. I think they were around $3.88 for a box of 24. Hope that helps!

The reason they require store bought is because of health code issues and what is acceptable to bring to school. While it may seem stupid, they cannot control for cleanliness of people's kitchens and it seems prudent to err on the safe side than to wind up with a whole class with hepatitis because someone did not follow appropriate kitchen practices.

Wal-Mart has both the sugar cookies and pre-made rice crispy treats. In the case of the latter, you hand each kid a treat, he opens it, he decorates it, you are done. In the case of the former, you open the box, and you are done. The sugar cookies will be cheaper than puchasing 45 rice crispy treats.

If you want to do Rice Kripie treats try Sam's or Costco. They usually have the large boxes of the individual treats.

Try Tom Thumb. I noticed last night they had the big sugar cookies by the fresh baked goods.

Usually you can go to any bakery and order plain sugar cookies-if you go ahead and give them enough time it usually isn't a problem. We have done this for Church multiple times.

I was thinking about serving Rice Krispie treats at a recent party. Someone told me they had them at Sam's. They also normally have sugar cookies. You could call ahead to the bakery and check before you made a trip.

Your local grocery store's bakery could probably hook you up with plain sugar cookies.

It is nice to have homemade - depending on your time, BUT the kids are not going to notice, they are just so excited to be decorating them. We do this every year and they can be bought - usually this time of year the store bakeries will have large sugar cookies un-iced ready to buy.

Why do they have to be store-bought? That's odd. Anyway, you've gotten some great suggestions here. I would add that Casa Linda Bakery on Garland Road makes nice big sugar cookies for decorating. They're sturdy, but still really nice to eat. Order ahead of time. For good sturdy cookies that are very thick and easy for little hands to decorate (but not quite as tasty as Casa Linda Bakery's), try a cookie bouquet store.

Have fun decorating with the kids!

I had to make 3 dozen cookies this past weekend for church, and used the Betty Crocker cookie mix in the bag. NOTE: The bag says it makes 3 dozen cookies, but I was only getting a little more than a dozen per bag. I ended up with about 42 cookies, and used 3 bags. I decorated mine with Betty Crocker frosting out of the tube (that I got FREE at Kroger a while back as they were clearancing them out after Halloween-white in color), and green and red sprinkles. Although I know you said they are decorating them at school.
