Hello,
I am just wondering how much other moms babies nap. Mine is almost 6 months old, and he will take a long nap in the morning for a couple of hours gets up at 10 then don't nap but 2 more times maybe 3 30 min. naps the rest of the day. He does sleep through the night which i am thankful for. The no napping doesn't bother me it is the fact that he gets so crankyat times. But for the most part he is very happy. Here in the past week he seems that he is wanting to nap more maybe even a little more tired but guess what he will only lay down for a few min. He then wants to nap before he takes his last bottle of the night around 7. What are other baby habits?

What can I do next?

I can't remember what my kids did at 6 months, but I always go back to "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child," a book by Marc Weissbluth. I will have to go find the book and look up that age, but if you have time to swing by Barnes & Noble or Books-a-million, they will have it and you can flip through it. He has so much experience and such a relaxed, real, personality and philosophy...but sleep is key and getting a routine makes all the difference in your child's disposition!! Let me know if you want me to just look up anything for you--

It is so weird that your son's schedual is exactly the same as my youngest who turned 7 months two wks ago! I think your schedual sounds totally normal! Mine gets up twice durring the night, so I would say you are definately doing something right!

All babies are different. I have a 5 year old. I remember nap times were pretty well set by the time she was 6 months old. One in the morning, one in the afternoon and bed at 7, but she did not sleep through the night. Consider yourself lucky that he is sleeping through the night!!! That doesn't happen to often at 6 months old. If he is cranky in the afternoon, that could be a sign to you he needs to be held for a while by mom. Sounds like he is getting enough sleep so I wouldn't worry about it to much.

You are gonna see different sleep schedules for all kids. if what you want is 2 good naps it can be done. my son is 11 months old and he will have 1 30min to 1 hr. nap then one 2-3 hour nap a day.
when we were so busy around christmas he missed 1 of his naps for 1 week and that was hard. we finally got back on schedule and now i keep him up for an hour longer before giving him either one of his naps and he seems to go right down plus he will sleep about 30 mins. longer too.
It sounds as if your child is doing just fine though.
good luck!~T.

My daughter is 9 months old. I asked my pedi. when she was around 6 months and she told me as long as her sleeping time adds up to around 14 hours, don't worry. My daughter would sleep 12 hours at night; 1 1/2 hour a.m. nap; 1 1/2 hour p.m. nap.

I have a 7 month old and her naps seem to be unpredictable. Some mornings she takes a 2-3 hour nap, other times only an hour and then she takes an afternoon nap was well, varies from 1-2 hours depending on how long her morning nap was. She had been sleeping through the night, but lately she is up 1-2 times a night. I think this is from teething. I think your doing all the right things and that every baby is different. If you think he is getting grumpy in the afternoon try giving him a bottle or even a small snack if you are doing solids and see if you can get him down then. Don't be afraid to let him cry a little too to get him to nap if you think he is tired. I had to do this with my daughter for a few days and now she usually goes down pretty easily when she starts to get fussy and I put her in her crib.
Enjoy your sleep at night. I'm jealous. :)

Ive asked my peds and done a lot of internet research on this same topic. My child is almost 6 monthes old and he still will not sleep through the night. He is up twice during the night. He then takes an 1 1/2 morning nap and 1/2 afternoon nap and then is in bed at 8PM for the night. After the countless hours of research I did, the conclusion Ive come to is that is still in the range of normal. As long as it adds up to 14 hours, it is normal. I expected no sleep for a few monthes after he was born, but at this point my body is so exhausted, I can fall asleep in a seated position without realizing it. I wouldn't worry about it if your baby is getting close to 14 hours.
