My 4 1/2 Month Old Congested!?

My baby boy is congested and I just took to the Dr 2 days ago because he had a little neck rash. I am just wondering if there is anything I can give him w/out seeing his Dr again. Ever since they recalled a lot of over the counter baby medicines I am worried. He hasn't gotten a fever nor any sneezing nor coughing.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hello thank you for your wonderful advice my son has gotten better as the days pass. I bought a new humidifier it's great!!! I have also spoken to my doctor's office just to keep in eye on him. There must be a bug going around. Thank you...

My son had frequent congestion, and the OTC stuff was pulled right after my son was born...so, we have had to use the tried and true old school methods.

* Humidifier
* Infants Vics Vapor Rub (all day)
* Steamy Shower
* Walks at night when it's cooler and more moisture in the air

Those things helped us get through the worst of it...Good luck. If it's not gone in about five days, I'd call your doc and ask the nurse what to recommend. Save yourself a trip and give them a ring, I call my doctor's office all the time with questions...sometimes I even save myself a trip if I can get them to give me the same advice over the phone.

Hi A.,
Those first colds are the worst - mostly for you because you're so worried. I used saline spray several times a day (they have it for babies) and after each spray I would use the big rubber suction thingy (I can't remember what it's called) to get as much stuff out of my son's nose as possible. He didn't like it but it helped. (He is 6 and I still use it). At night I would have him sleep with a cold air humidifier and keep the room cool. It should pass in a few days.

If it lasts a long time, you should see the doctor again just to be safe. It may be an allergy rather than just a cold.

Hope this helps!

Been there. I'll tell you what my daughter's Dr told me. Buy a humidifier (preferably the Vicks one), and lather him up w-Baby Vicks. If he has a stuffy nose, suck those boogers out as much as you can. They hate that but it helps them breathe alot better. Good luck! I hope he feels better soon!!
